  1. Thought that might get someone's attention.

I've been riding my current bike for nearly a year in extreme comfort
after spending a good length of time adjusting everything for a perfect
fit. I recently had two weeks off the bike due to a nasty cold and
started riding again last Friday. Since then I've noticed a twinge of
numbness down below, as though my fit has gone a little astray... but
nothing seems to be out of place (pardon the pun). Can anyone offer any
other explanation for a sudden change in fit? Muscle tension, body
    position adjustment etc??? Ideas appreciated.

You've got a case of epididymitis... Go back to bed. 😉

    A wild and uneducated guess:

You're perhaps still a trifle congested and trying to sit up so you can
breathe more deeply. That would make you move forward in the saddle and thus
putting the stiiting bone bits onto a somewhat narrower bit of the saddle.
End result being you sit lower with respect to the saddle and put pressure
    on the perineum (sp?).

So he's forgetting to sit on the monkey bones? Or maybe Lotte's correct and Beans is feeling rather chuffed with his sudden self improvement? 😉

You know, that might just be possible. I'm still breathing a bit hard
but hadn't thought about whether or not I'm adjusting my position to
    compensate.

    Thanks for the idea.

You should try getting a vasectomy! Kept me out of the saddle for
damned near 6 months, that did.

Man that sounds like seriously painful complications.

Did you do it yourself with a broken rum bottle after you drank it?

Not complications as such, but the bruising was a sight to behold (It's
a very blood-rich area down there!)

6 months? I was back in the saddle within a couple of weeks.
What did your surgeon use, a couple of bricks? I had mine under
a local (which was starting to wear off by the time that the last
stitches were going in - hurty hurty).

BTH is a well known DIY man.

I'm sure he rigged up a wind generator and an electric carving knife.

Likewise, but no dramas. I also had a Valium, which sure helped. The
doc had a shelf in clear view of patients, containing some sentimental
items including two bricks ... also a sign saying something about what
he could get you to do, once he had you by the testicles ... I faded
out about then with a wry smile on my face. Back on the bike in about
two weeks, but could have been earlier except for doctor's orders.
Funny thing - the receptionist/nurse was a frequent member of the bunch
ride, so she knew more than most about quite a few riders.

Well, perhaps I exaggerate a little. With hindsight I tried to get
active again too soon after the op, and several months later I was
still getting discomfort from where the vas ends were healing (I still
    have small tender lumps there).

I *could* have ignored the discomfort and kept riding, but that didn't
seem like such a great idea at the time.

I couldn't ride my bike for about 6 weeks after mine (nor anything
else, pretty much). It was also probably exacerbated by trying
to do too much, too early. And it didn't help matters that I hobbled
out the back door the day I got back from hospital, to be greeted
by my 3yo doberman. She was a lovely dog, but with one bad habit,
thrusting her snout into peoples' groins .......
