No Kick Stand

Why not indeed! I say whatever makes him/her happy.. Hook a "market basket" for the groceries on your carbon fiber stem, or even better.... put on two small training wheels on your rear wheel... helps support your cornering during slippery wet conditions!

I guess the kickstand would add too much weight or something. I have kickstands on my hybrid and mtb, but the kickstand that came with the blade was broken, so I took it off. If it had been working properly, I would have left it. I don't think an aluminum kickstand will make much difference given that the blade weighs 28lbs anyway.

A thought just dawned on me, maybe it's because they don't want to scar the frame. That would make sense, except that it means you would have to either lean the bike on something or lay it on the ground any time you aren't riding it or when it's not hanging from ceiling hooks (a popular way to store bicycles). Both of these sceanrios could damage the bike, but so could falling off of it's kickstand. I guess I'm just as confused about this as you are. But you're right, I've never seen a roadie with a kickstand, except for the wally world ones.

Roadiefucious say, "The size of one's kick stand is inversely related to the size of one's member." For this reason no kick stand will ever touch my bikes. It would not be elite.

Aside from that my bikes are always under my butt, on top of my car, or inside hanging from a bike rack or a workstand; so a kick stand would be useless.

First of all there really is nothing you can mount the kick stand too. And road bikes are meant to ride. There are plenty of things you can lean them up against. And you would lean them up, using the handlebar and seat, not the frame. This way you ensure no scratches or of a chance that the frame would slip.

Also the weight would be pretty big, and lastly, I don't think there is a kick stand small enough, and compact enogh.

Recreational bike have them because they are recreational bikes. Not to brust anyones bubbles.

If my bike had a kick stand the first thing I would do is remove it. My wife has one of those "recreational bikes" and I rode it after some repairs. It made a big bruise on my ankle because there was a large alluminum spike protruding from the side of the bike! What a great Idea! I hate kick stands. I have no problem putting my bike on its side when there is no good place to lean it.

There's nothing on my bike that dun need to be there... Its not like I ride to store and buy groceries... If she's not in my indoor bikerack at home or on my maintenance stand at work, she's under my [censored]...

Why do I need a kickstand? The bike doesn't fall over when on the rack in the living room. When it's in the workstand, it's as stable as can be. When it's in my office, it's content to lean up against the wall, and if I stop on a ride, there's always a tree, wall, or summat to lean it up against.

I wonder why MotoGP bikes don't have kickstands? Why don't F1 cars have turn signals? Why don't people where helmets in their cars?

A kickstand is just extra, useless weight.

Lean your bike up against something when you ride it. Have it on a bike rack of some sort at home. Save lugging a half kg around when you ride!

The extra weight thing really doest make sense though... how much does a kickstand weigh? a couple of ounces?

Mwhahaha, yes, I saw those little britain dolls in the borders up here in Tuggerah NSW. $80 though, if I remember rite... I'll get one when they are on special and cabletie it to my bike... And when getting cheek of car drivers, press the botton "HOMOPHOBIST!!!"

Again, why is a kickstand needed?

When i did my bike tour and weight was an issue ,the weight of the side stand was debated as you need a sturdy one (weighed close to a killo) to hold up the laiden bike.However i found the stand very usful.
On bikes were you have hollow cracks,carben fibre components and use 6mm tubes as opposed to 9mm,250 g of side stand would be an issue.
