No, sorry, work is unforgiving of asking for days off on Saturdays :-(
Of course I could well end up getting some other days off soon.

That's the way it's going these days. Judith and I had an expedition
up High Holborn and over the viaduct to watch a footie match the other

Really great to meet Judith & Jhimmy again.

Report to follow or should I say multiple reports to follow....?

    he's just my short one.

Arrived late on Friday night. First tent I saw was a "Roger" orange Vango
tent, but alas it wasn't him. After a quick chat to Judith, David and Daniel
    I went instantly to sleep.

Saturday's weather started glorious, but later a bit cloudy. I did Great
Gable and hated the screes slopes I needed to get to the Needle. DONT
ask....but I failed to find the Needle! I now know where it is so I might
return - doh. Is this the worst scree slopes in the Lakes?

Sunday was hot, sweaty and sunny. Harter fell and Hard knott was on my
agenda. I completed my Wainwrights with a final finish on Hard Knott -
which I had all to myself. I wished I had finished on Harter Fell as it had
a final "rock climb" to reach the true summit.

Drove home - over hard Knott and Wrynose passes - knackered.

    Cheers

    Jhimmy

Actually a Blacks Mountain Tent plus flysheet, a much superior product,
but thanks for those kind words. I was otherwise engaged in South Wales.

    he's just my short one.

And a quick one from me:

Drove the Wrynose and Hard Knott passes for the first time on the way
to Wasdale. Yikes! I went home a different way.

Arrived at the campsite just after 8pm and the midgies were just
starting to bite. (I have just reapplied some soothing Witch Hazel
gel to various parts of my body.)

I couldn't find David and Daniel (who were in the pub!) so I put up my
tent and let them find me later. I considered their intention to do
    Yewbarrow in the morning.

On Saturday morning, Jhimmy described Yewbarrow to me and I decided to
    go somewhere else!

I walked up the Black Sail pass to the Youth Hostel where I had a chat
with various hostellers and walkers, including a couple of Canadians
doing the Coast to Coast. It was a very hot morning and I made every
effort to drink water regularly. There is a notice in the Youth
Hostel saying that the water comes from a beck and it's up to you
whether you regard it as drinkable; I drank a pint or so.

From Black Sail YH I headed towards Windy Gap then headed due West
with the intention of going down Kirk Fell. However, I'd not
appreciated that I'd have to go UP again first, so I actually followed
a path to the East of Kirk Fell down to Wasdale Head via Burnthwaite.

I was quite tired when I got back to the camp site but a shower
livened me up a bit and a walked to the pub as I reckoned that's where
the others would be. I had two very nice pints of beer which went
straight to my head, and my legs, and made for an entertaining walk
back to the tent. Thankfully, on this final journey I remembered to
take the stile onto the path back to the campsite rather than heading
up towards Scafell like I'd done earlier in the day!

I drank another couple of cups of water before going to bed (at around
10:30pm) but woke up at 2am with an awful headache and feeling not
very well at all. I drank some more water and, well, let's just say I
was "ill". Usually I could manage two pints of ale (and I had eaten
before going to the pub) but I reckon I was dehydrated and should have
    stayed off the booze.

I had already decided to have a lie-in on the Sunday, and my disturbed
sleep confirmed the decision. I had a leisurely breakfast and
listened to the Archers Omnibus before packing up my tent. I watched
a robin inspecting the patch of grass where the tent had been. He or
she found a HUGE worm which it folded up and flew away with. There
was also a family of thrushes including a large, greedy baby running
its parents ragged with demands for breakfast.

I drove back to the M6 via Broughton in Furness where I had double egg
and chips and a pot of tea and bumped into one of the people I'd
spoken to at Black Sail YH.

This weekend I'm staying in Keswick on a Hen Weekend and will probably
organise a walk for the more adventurous of my friends. I hope I
    don't get "dehydrated" (!) again.

The first time I drove over Hardknott it was at night in pouring rain

At the bottom I saw a car coming down and stopped to let it come all
the way down, it's rather difficult to see passing places when your
lights are pointing away from the road.

If I smoked I'd have to take my breaks outside from the first of next
month. The only downside of this smoking ban is going to be folk sat
outside puffing away ruining all that fresh air. :-(

Nick made a bit of a smoke screen coming down Kirkstone Pass on the
way to the previous urw Lakes meet, I don't think he had a full grasp
of the theory of engine braking. Judith's old car "Manuel" would have
had a double advantage on Hardknott; a diesel engine and low range if
needed, but you wouldn't have needed low range unless he had been full
of bags of concrete mix. Oh, and I think the high viewpoint might have
    helped too.

There must have been a Mini car convention as there was loads of old and new
Minis driving westward over the Wrynose and Hardknot passes on sunday.
Unfortunetly, one older Mini had broken down half way up Hardknott pass on
    the eastern side.

David apparently left a nice big slab of rubber on Hard Knott road, I think
    I saw it ;-)

On the Hard Knott I once blew out an engine in a little Renault 5 that
had only been fitted the previous week - I seem to recall a huge
argument about whether the warranty covered it or not.

Trying to take the bends at 40+ mph is fun.

Back in the days of the Motoring News Championship, they were used as
competitive sections. Yikes! Dunno if they still are. Actually the
"straight" bit near Cockley Beck is probably the nastiest. It encourages
a bit of heavy right foot after the wiggly bits but turns out to be not
exactly straight and has a few "car tripping" rocks sticking out.

More a case of not realising that the guy asking directions and the

    Excellent :-)

I once tried to drive a minibus up the pass (don't ask me which one; I
think it was Hardknott BICBW 'cos I can't remember now which direction
we were going in). Reversing back down was 'fun' when I realised that
with that much traffic around it was going to be stop start stop all the
way. The problem was that I was physically incapable of operating the
handbrake successfully, so would be unable to rely on it either
    ascending or descending.

A later adaptation was an extension to the lever, giving more, er,
leverage. It was very successful and I was finally able to stop the bus
on a hill where previously I'd not dared.
