Hello. I found this group a long time ago and saved it, as it appears
to have some great food conversations. Although, rarely could I find
    a food conversation I wouldn't enjoy 😉

Before diving in and creating havoc, I thought it best to inquire
about the ng rules/FAQ's. I'm not sure how formal this group is, or
how open the group is to new members. Advice?

Missy, if you haven't figured it out yet, and by now you should have 😉
this is just a bunch of folks talking about food and sharing recipes and
    ideas.

Yes, there are OT posts and no, you don't have to read them. You don't have
to reply to them. I personally don't mind OT posts because I can read the
starting topic and just ignore it if I want to. What bugs me are the
cross-posts to places that have nothing to do with cooking or food, like
    (examples here aren't real: rec.dead.animals; alt.movies.celebrities;
rec.nazis.edu) This sort of cross-posted [censored] is just stupid. Trolls,
usually out of school and on Mommy's computer unsupervised. I mention posts
by Andrew Chung only because he is continually cross posted here as a
"doctor" and also as a Christian evangelist. No place here in rfc but some
folks think his posts or their objections to his cross posts belong
    EVERYWHERE. NOT.

If you feel the need to reply to them, please only reply (please) to the
    ng's that don't include rec.food.cooking.

It sounds like you'll have a lot of nice recipes to share, and experiences
with your kids and grandkids. Can't wait to hear more 🙂

    Jill

It was actually L. I was replying to, I think I know her from a couple
    cat groups.

    Yes, that would be me.

I thought so! This is Rebecca from alt.cats, though I haven't posted
there in yonks. Don't know if you remember me, my cats are Gobo & Slinkee.

There's a better way, but you need a newsreader with more robust
filtering than some have. Chung threads are almost always cross-posted
to a certain set of newsgroups. Filter those, filter the word "chung"
in the subject, almost 100% clearance.

Are you freezing up there? It was cold as hell in Glendale when I left.
It's warmer down south. Supposedly it is much warmer than when I left. It's
in the 40s from what I gather.

Heh, don't rub it in ... it was 17 when I woke up. Probably at a
    cheery 20 by now.

Falling off horses hurts, I hope you don't do that again.

    I feel a bit silly now 😉 I can't explain it, but "whirlygirl(y)"
sounds so familiar. I just don't know why. Go figure...

It goes with the territory. When you're jumping fences at 30mph you had
    best wear a helmet <G>

I remember you! The cat groups are pretty much trash now. Alt.cats is
still alive and well and fairly not infested. How are your kitties?

Thay're great.. Gobo's still an ornery little beast, we really hit the
crazy lottery with that one. <g> And Slinkee's really come out of her
shell over the last year or so, I guess she finally decided we weren't
going to kick her out or anything. They're currently fighting over their
favorite spot in front of the heating vent.

    How're you and yours?

Kill author, kill thread... usually the threads have Chung's name in
    them, so I get a 2fer.
