No kiddin. Freehubs for 7700 hubs are getting scarce, to try to 'encourage'
conversion to 10s.

The only bright spot is the price of new 10s ultegra, a level playing field as
OEM resale is stopped. BUT it's going to go up in price about $200.

No great surprises: pinch-bolt cranks, 10-speed, other minor
improvements.

THe interesting question is whether this stuff will trickle down to 105
next year, especially the pinch-bolt crank. As of right now, 105 is the
only Octalink group on the road side (Tiagra and Sora use square-taper
spindles).

On the MTB side, where they got the new crank a year earlier on XTR,
they now have four groups using the new crank: XTR, XT, Saint (think
XT/XTR-level freeride gear), and Hone (slightly cheaper freeride gear).
Two of those are new groups. I don't think they want to add any new road
groups, though.

But perhaps hello affordable SRAM ten-speed cassettes (oh and let them
be loose cog, too!). I doubt there will be any shortage of nine-speed
cassettes any time soon.

The new cassette range is good to see. The crank/ spindle interface is
what's most important to me, though the more ergonomic lever sweep might be
nice. I haven't tried the DA versions yet.

Shimano BB design? Is there a problem with the Octalink design it's
supposed to solve, and if so, does the new design solve it?

If the cleat has changed, then it's an issue. If it hasn't, it's a
non-issue.

Hopefully more reliable shifters as the 6500/7700 were certainly not.

Jobst talks a lot about 'lash' on the spline/octalink design. My best solution,
along with BB bearings large enough are.........

square taper. Sure works well and has for many years.

The one piece crank is much marketing, and VERY expensive-Like $400 per
crank(XTR/DA).
