New bike!

I always use normal insulation tape. The trick is to trim it
cleanly- looks alright then. If you cut it roughly, then it
looks rough.

Well done for the new bike. That's this summers muse
sorted, then.

Bikes - thanks for being so helpful to someone who has
been out of bikes for a few years - highly recommended.

Off topic for this post, but - any tips for a cheap
solution for cable rubbing on frames rather than the
ridiculously expensive plastic 'dots'?

I use self adhesive polyester film, sort of heavy duty
scellotape (spl?). IIRC from the makers of Duck Tape, same
roll size and similar packaging, and available from B & Q.
( Ibought it for emergency repairs to windsurfer sails).

I use the ridiculously expensive dots myself, because
experience indicates they don't come off. At my LBS
"ludicrously expensive" translates to under a fiver for
enough to do three bikes.

I cut up the self adhesive punture repair patches, leeches I
think they are called and stick them to the frame to stop
cable wear and scratches. They last a year or so, then just
put another bit on.

Thanks all - using masking tape at the moment, but will dig
out some patches (and an old inner tube for the chainstay)
when I get a sec...
