Hi Folks
After my last post (best 400 quid bike) and a lot of
research, I decided on the Trek 4500 as it seemed to have
the best spec for the price. Trouble was, I'd always had
(secondhand or just a frame) konas before, and, I don't know
why, they always seemed to 'suit' me. However, the Fire
Mountain was 50 quid more expensive than the Trek and (Kona
website about a week ago) was lower spec
(alivio/acera/altus).
So I wandered down the road to Keswick today in glorious
Lakeland weather and actually saw the kona and thought
'sod it' - subconciously I always knew I wanted the Kona
and wouldn't like the Trek. Once I got home I found that
it was actually all Deore, a serious bonus at that price.
I've just looked at Konas website and it is now listed as
all Deore - talk about 'specifications are subject to
change at no notice'! All the comics still have it listed
as the low spec!
So - I'm very happy as I now have a brand new bike at a
price I wanted to pay and a spec higher than I thought I was
getting. Just had a test ride around local bridleways for
about 10 miles and it felt great (and was a lot lighter
'feeling' than I thought it would be).
Just a quick word of recommendation for Keswick Mountain
Bikes - thanks for being so helpful to someone who has been
out of bikes for a few years - highly recommended.
Off topic for this post, but - any tips for a cheap solution
for cable rubbing on frames rather than the ridiculously
expensive plastic 'dots'?
