Not to say "it's a guy thing," but...I do think there's a higher
percentage of guys who are secret adreneline junkies that must feed
their need for speed, air, ... whatever gets their rocks off.

    Men are nuts.

Yes, true, but they are also actual human beings with secretly fragile
egos, so it's best not to say this to their faces :-)

I find this true in my family......sons who skydive, mountain bike,

instead of racing cars. Men are nuts.

Shoes, diamonds, clothes, shopping,....children!!! Sure, "men" are nuts.

Excuse me? Shoes are beautiful, shopping is a "happy pill", children
are a blessing.....and DIAMONDS....did you ever hear that old joke
about how to get those little "extras" from your lady....if you
    haven't....it a funny and true joke. ;-)
Women are not nuts, women are smart!! Well, Nuts and Smart.

The mall is not just "the mall", it is a very complex experience that
takes in all the senses. First of all, a woman usually goes to the
mall with another woman....Bad idea to take a man to the mall unless
you leave him in hardware or sports and fetch him later. With a
girlfriend it is a wonderful experience of sight and sound....walking,
talking, laughing and having lunch. How do women spend an entire
afternoon at the mall? It is a safe haven away from the house, the
husband, the kids, the vacuum cleaner, and the cooking. It is not the
mall actually, it is anywhere you escape with the girlfriends...whether
it be the salon, the gym or the mall. It is girl time. No BS...just
shopping, lunch and laughs. That's how women can spend the entire
afternoon at the mall. I feel sorry for the women who drag "the mall
men" there.....you know those guys who are walking behind their wives
carrying packages wishing they could shoot themselves in the head and
end it all. ;-) Does that answer your question?

You know, thinking back, I survived. So I did do well given my
cluelessness. I was stupid for going with my brother, but my brother
was mean for taking me. He knew what it would be like. He also knows I
wear $400 Manolos, get manicures, and buy Gucci purses. Does that
sound like the kind of woman you would take mountain biking and
camping. I think he thought it was funny. But this is the same
brother who broke my nose twice when we were little because he always
played rough. "ALL BOY" my parents used to call him. They should have
put PSYCHO before teh "ALL BOY".... I have older brother stories that
are ten times worse than this mountain bike adventure.....LIKE the time
he dragged me through the sewer pipes to find buried treasure. I
should have known better. What can I say. I'm still an idiot when it
comes to my brothers games. He is an overgrown child. And serving 4
years in Vietnam didn't help him get any more sympathetic to the fact
that I am not tough enough. I'm staying on the bike paths in suburbia.
One day I will get wise to my brother. Maybe when I am 80 and he is
    82.

BTW....Yesterday my husband cleaned out the garage and threw away my
bike from about 20 years ago. He did not even get the bike to the curb
and someone took it. I was amazed. It was so old and rusty...yet
someone actually came into my back yard to take it. Amazing. Who
would want a 20 year old bike. Was it a classic or something. I
    remember buying it in sears.

Don't be surprised if you find it scrubbed up and for sale on craigslist
next week for $50 or more.

Yes, just not women from NJ.

You really seem to live in a very small world. Didn't you have an issue
recently regarding men and biking shorts? Do you really believe that
world ends at the Jersey state line?

Some day, visit the rest of the world, start with the rest of the
country. What I particulary love about my part of the country is that
people are not defined by what they wear or buy, or what they have
someone else do to their bodies (or hands), but by what they do to their
own body in the form of outdoor activities like biking, climbing, skiing
    and the like.

Naw, that's people in Manhattan, as in the famous Saul Steinberg 1976 New
Yorker cartoon called "A View of the World from Ninth Avenue"

Maggie's certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of her mountain bike writeup
(including postings from me, so I'm not throwing stones here). Maybe she
missed a career as a humorist.

I've been to Colorado, I've been to Texas, Utah, Arizona, California
and I fly to Nevada three times a year. I have many relatives out west.
MANY!!! I think I have been to your part of the country enough to know
a little about "YOUR WORLD".... My aunt owns a horse ranch in Wyoming
and I try to get there as often as I can but I have to take three
connecting flights to get to her and its a pain. She lives in Powell.
My other cousin lives in Ft. Lupton, Co. ....these are not Big cities.
But it is where they live. My niece lives in Carson City Nevada. My
future son-in-law in working in Texas at the moment. He has been there
for a few months now. My daughter is flying out this weekend. My son
was stationed in Texas and I I flew there twice to visit him. She was
also in Boot Camp in Missouri. Why did you make the assumption that I
have never left Jersey. Was there a reason for that? Can you let me
know? I'm curious. Have we met before? You have defined me because I
live in Jersey......I never define my relatives because they live out
west. Do you see anything strange about that. Ummmm.... They are
    defined as people.

I've defined you by the things you say, it just so happens you live in NJ.
Quoting $ amounts and name brands, that appears to define you and your
attitude regarding what women should be like. I was born and raised in
PA, it is a familiar attitude to me.

Are you kidding me. Everytime I spend 400 bucks on a pair of shoes I
think I need intense psycho therapy. Do you ever see the humor in
what I write? Who writes posts stating they carry their Gucci purse on
their handbars while biking? Lighten up. Life is too bizarre to be
serious about anything, and too short to define people you don't know.
Life in itself is very humorous at times. I find humor in the
ridiculous things I do and sometimes I write about it. Women should
be who they are......I have a daughter, I never raised her to be like
me. Plus I went from being a poor hippie of the 60's who wore torn
jeans and went to Woodstock, to being a mother of three constantly in
sweat pants and a pony tail.....to what I am now. When I am in my 70's
I am sure I will be something different again. We
evolve...devolve....change...rearrange and then we die. Even in
Jersey. The only constant in life is change.....yes even in a Jersey
    woman.
