    Beltran 4%
    Landis 3%

I voted for Rubiera about a week ago and at that time Heras had a slight lead. I assume the reason
for that was that he is the best known. Roberto has tried I am sure but the best results by far have
come from Rubiera. Lance is lucky that for each Tour he has had at least one super strong mountain
helper. By super strong I mean supremely talented and on form for the critical stages. Beltran
should do just as well next year if... He needs more time to get to know the team and Lance.

That's a funny coincidence, I just voted for 'Triki' as well. It seems like he's the one who is
allways there to turn the screws just when Lance needs a teammate the most.

Thanks for the link. No doubt I'm not seeing everything, but Rubiera's work at the base of Luz
Ardidden won my vote. Beltran is my close 2nd.

    As of July 25:
    Rubiera 35%
    Heras 24%
    Hincapie 18%
    Pena 8%
    Beltran 5%
    Landis 3%
    Ekimov 2%
    Padrnos 0%

Seems to me Beltran's big efforts came during the more decisive stages - but Chechu's definitely earned his paycheck.

    It's Chechu
    33% Rubiera
    22% Hincapie (!)
    22% Heras
    8% Pena
    6% Beltran

Odd that ClifBar would wait so long before announcing a winner - the TdF hoopla is over. The site says he'll get his award at interbike.

I think the results are skewed by the fact that Hincappie, Pena, Beltran, Ekimov do most of their
work before the TV coverage begins.

Agreed, the early workers are just as important as the late ones.

If the early ones can't do their job, then everyone moves up a notch. Multiply that by a few riders
and there's no one left to do the late work.

Those polls are meaningless - the only ones who could really tell you who was most valuable would be
those on the team (or perhaps their competitors).

I'd vote for Hincapie (but I ain't getting $10,000 so who cares?). The guy is a sprinter and he got
himself and Lance and everybody else over some of the early climbs and when the road is flat. He
gets the minimum support for the Spring Classics which are probably a higher priority for him and
gives his all for the Tour. Rubiera and Heras do the climbing and they are good at that so I'd
expect them to be there in the mountains.

An aside when the NYC Cycling Championship was being advertised on TV locally here in NYC the ad
"defined" some cycling terms for the public. One term was "domestique". The defination was "Tough
guy, you don't want to mess with him." and they showed a picture of Lance! Well at least they showed
    the whole race.

You are wrong. The stupid team is not even necessary. Lance could kick all their asses by himself.

You are right. They seem to slow him down. Have you watched and seen LANCE having to just sit back
and wait for them to bring him some water? Man those guys are slow! And in the mountains they get in
his way, two or three of them riding in front of him, blocking LANCE from taking the lead! What are
    they thinking?

You are a genius Deeznuts, get rid of the team so LANCE can ride!

You know, there are a lot of guys with better records in the classics than Hincapie. And not because
they get great support and he doesn't. He gets more than the minimum and the guys that get more
support get it because they have delivered more results than he has.

Nobody gets a team assembled around them because someday they *just* *might* win Paris-Roubaix.

    totally.

Hincrappy summarized his classics career last year when he rode into that ditch in Paris-Roubaix.

  16. A meaningless poll, especially since only US consumers were targeted with the ads promoting it on
OLN. Europeans (and others) might have access to the site, but what good is it if they do not
    know about it?

So Chechu wins, simply because Paul Sherwin mentioned his name more times than any of the other
guys. He may well be the best one, but make no mistake: he won because he worked for lance and
because Sherwin/Liggett mentioned his name more than the others.

Very few mentions about the leadout trains who were able to consistently deliver the top sprinters
to the line during the flats. They never get any credit. It's way harder to lead out a sprinter than
it is to be 140 lbs and ride in front of lance for a few miles on a hill.
