You'd better watch it then, Pat. The turf managers might set a trap for you!

You could put a wire cover over your veggies and stop killing animals.
besides birds, rabbits and rats do the same thing. you are picking on the
one nice spirit that is easy to kill. typical Deers should carry guns just
to even it up for you.

I don't have much sympathy for the "never harm a living thing" crowd.
Squirrels and chipmunks have invaded our house over the years.
They've chewed through wood to get access. They're known to chew
through electrical wires and burn houses down. I shoot them or trap
them.

Regarding the vegetables: My wife stopped vegetable gardening because
of losses to animals - deer and groundhogs, mostly. They're
tremendously overpopulated here. Last month, a deer died about 30
feet into the woods behind our property line, probably from an
overpopulation-aided disease. Horrible stench, until the village
buried it, and probably a very unpleasant death for the deer.

ISTM the options are a) keep the population down by killing the pretty
animals, or b) introduce predators to kill the pretty animals. Both
involve the pretty animals dying.

And when you think about it, all the animals we normally think of as
"pretty" are the prey animals. I believe that when God created the
earth, he used "pretty" to signal "tasty." That's just the way it is.

If you ever get to design your own universe, you can do it
differently.

Just what we are all doing. that is what separates us from animals so they
are the under dog already why contribute?

there was a news clip on our station on how to keep pesky raccoons and
squirrels out of your house. protecting the foundation and soffit is
usually the way it's done. just be glad it was not a family of skunks in
your house

I do not have any problem with them here and growing up we had a big veggie
garden and fruit trees. Only thing we were bothered by was the cherry
eating birds and they pretty much 86ed the cherrys. Throwing a net over
that tree was not doable. Folks have the same problem with a fig tree now
and I helped put a net over it when it was only about 13 ft high. Fig jam
is the best I have ever tasted.
Matter of fact they had deers jump 6 ft fences but they fixed that too.
always a way if there is a will don't you know?

For Your info, Diablo was the one with the vegetables. I kill or trap
squirrels because I have two pecan trees and I am tired of not getting a
single pecan from them! The squirrels take the pecans while still in the
green husk stage. AND, I have two mature Red Oak trees in the yard with
jillions of acorns but the squirrels take only the pecans. Enough is enough!

Okay, Shirley, tell me how to prevent the squirrels from taking over the
pecan trees. Squirrels can run and jump about 6-7 feet high from the ground
level. They can jump from the wood fence to the pecan branches, and they can
get up on the garage roof and jump across to the pecan trees. Give it your
best shot!

So because squirrels do what Nature made 'em to do, you either kill 'em or
torture 'em and then use 'em to vandalize a local open-space sports
enterprise (sounds better than golf course to haters).

Nice karma ya got goin' there, Pat! LOL
