I read somewhere that the combined mass of squid weighs more than the combined mass of the entire human race. Might be complete [censored] too, though it is pleasant to know at least one species is fighting (or breeding a lot) against total human control of the planet.

    Squid time: 6.30pm tonight. Yum.

    Sushi.. ?

I can't be bothered invoking this here intarweb, but oji is not the
one that has fermented egg and rotten beans in it, is it? My japanese
supervisor took a few of us to a back alley way japanese restaurant.
He ordered the good stuff, then ordered this fermented [censored], and said
"it's... good. It's a delicacy, but... it's hollible", and then shook
his head. It was seriously sickening. Dais has good taste though --
used to be a chef, but came here and gave up cooking all together.

  3. Big ta's to those dozen or so brave souls who turned out to Vanquish the Giant Killer Squid!

Unfortunately the Squid almost got the better of us, when we were all forced to move to a bigger table.

But we ventured on. On through springs rolls, hot tea, prawn crackers, beer and several yummy squid dishes. Must do it again soon. 😉

I think what you are talking about is called "Nutto". Fermented bean curb (haha what an appropriate typo! "bean curD" I meant) from memory.

"Oji" is a cool Japanese restaurant on Burke Rd. Camberwell, opp. JB HiFi and down the hill slightly. I learnt how to use chopsticks there, 5min before my 20th birthday dinner.
