I am newbie, been reading lots of your posts and congratulations. Seems
that most are doing really well on Atkins. I started it 7 weeks ago. I
only lost 6 pounds, so stayed on Induction the whole first month, still
no more lost. I called the
Atkins 800 number to get suggestions, was told that I should go to Owl,
and accept that I was a slow loser.
I was averaging 10 to 15 Carbs daily and 1000 Calories, 85 to 120 Fat
gms.
I ate almost no veges, raw spinach occaisionlly and string beans. I use
whipping cream in coffee, put big blobs of Dukes on my ground chuck
patty fried in canola oil. I love cream cheese but don't care much for
the rest, so I eat a two ounce chunk of it daily, sometimes twice.
Bacon, Pork chops, and Ribeye, and Fresh Salmon, and chicken has put a
dent in my budget....but I have loved every bite. I ty to eat an egg per
day in some form. I was a sweet-eater, so sug free jello was consumed in
large quantity at first. I was in Ketosis (but never got beyond the med.
pink). No matter, I felt better than I had as a teenager (BTW I am 59
yrs old, live on a limited SSD income, 4' 11" tall, had gained up to 154
and burst into tears at my doctor's appt. in May.)
I came home and done the cabbage soup diet for a few days and lost
the first four. My friend told me about Atkins. I was ecstatic!!! But
after a month of it, I began to wind down, and my legs and back ached. I
was very reluctant to get on the teadmill for only a short time versus
the mile as before....and my weight loss just stopped. Don't get me
wrong, that mile was walked very slowly, I have Asthma and lost my left
lung to Cancer a while back. It was the best I could do.
So I figured I was not getting proper nutrients, so added more veges
daily. and increased Carbs to 22 to 25 daily as instructed by
nutritionist at Atkins. NO MORE KETOSIS, that was the most wonderful
appetite suppressant and now it's gone. Before Atkins and Ketosis, I was
tired and sleepy and slept 8 or 10 hours or more, then all I needed was
5 or 6. Sadly it was short lived. I have gained back four of the six
pounds I lost on Atkins.
How is it possible to gain weight on 25 Carbs and 1200 Calories?
Thats still almost a "Nothing" diet. All I can assess from this, and
after reading both Atkins Books from cover to cover....it has to be
Extreme Metoblic Resistance, which can be almost impossible in my case
to overcome. I take several medications that may be blocking my weight
loss. If I suggest Thyroid to my doc, he ain't gonna go for it. He is
Anti-Atkins anyway.
What do ya'll think about my dilemma here? Please, any suggestions
will certainly be appreciated. Sorry about the long post. Someone told
me to try Southbeach if Atkins doesn't work for me.
After spending still another $18 on their book, I find that the first
few days of the diet uses 35 to 75 Carbs, and 1300 to 1700 Cal. Move
over Miss Piggy!
I realize it sounds unbelievable, but some of those days my total
calories was only 600. I keep a food dairy of everything I eat.
