Hmmm. That might make an interesting thread/poll:

I am a burner - I have gotten much better over the years - but I burn
myself several times a week. Just recently I figured out (with the help
of my non-cooking but very wise husband) that the same aloe gel that is
in the fridge for sunburn would ACTUALLY work on other kinds of burns.
Ahhh, all the years I suffered through the pain :P

My sister's approach is to have an Aloe Vera plant in the kitchen 🙂

You missed dropper. If there's a can, a breakable dish, or something
messy, it'll drop on my toe, on the floor in a million pieces, or all
over the place with the cat trying to help with cleanup.

I did that too but soon it became all broken stems and no points. 🙂
I'm not so bad now. When I was a student I used to hurry all the time
to cook something decent to eat, and consequently burned myself pretty
often.

Ah yes, the dropper...that would be my sister. I know she *has* opposable
thumbs - I've seen them - but I don't think hers work very well. 😉

medication and Crash had a CT scan before leaving the clinic. My main
concern is that Crash has neurofibromatosis, and tumors can form
anywhere, internally and externally. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm being thrown off the library's computer.

Gasp! Whenever I hear of that disease I always flash back to the first
season of that show Dallas. Victoria Principle's character, Pam Ewing,
had that in her family (apparently, lol) so she wasn't going to have a
baby and pass it on. It was all so dark and scary sounding to a young
girl like me.

Best wishes to Crash. Hope it all turns out negative and was some freaky
one time event, eh? Maybe you can wake up after a dream and find it was
just a really... real-ly long shower and it never happened. LOL

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic thing that is passed from one
generation to another. Or not. Or there can be a genetic mutation
which causes it to begin in a person with no family history of the
disease. Crash's mother had NF, as do both of Crash's brothers, and
his daughter.

What happens is, growths of extra tissue develop at nerve endings.
Some tumors are visible. These are soft, spongy things that look like
warts. Crash's external tumors are primarily on his torso, front and
back. He had a golf ball sized tumor removed from his face a few years
ago.

When the tumors are inside the body, they tend to be hard instead of
spongy, and they cause a lot of pain when touched. Tumors along the
spinal column are especially problematic.

The tumors can develop anywhere. In any vital organ (including the
brain), and anywhere else on the body. A brain tumor is a very real
threat. The same with heart, lung, etc. And any tumor can mutate at
any time into cancer. This is not simply a disfiguring disease. It's
a killer, as well.

Crash has NF1, which affects a person as described above, but with many
more symptoms that I haven't gotten into. People with NF2 develop ear
tumors and many, many of them become deaf.

For several years, I ran a website called "Neurofibromatosis
Resources," which Harvard maintained on their website. They requested
to do that. I didn't go to them. My current level of brain power
isn't allowing for the constant research necessary to maintain the site
(or any other), and it's been removed recently. So, yes, I know from
whence I speak.

We heard back from the doctor's office today. The CT scan came back
clean. Whew! Crash is still having blackouts, and he's still having
what the doctor described as partial seizures (he doesn't lose
consciousness).

Hopefully, the seizure medication will be helpful. Crash's daughter
also has the blacking out a seizure problems, along with NF. It's
scary, but with all that we go through on a regular basis, we've got
the intestinal fortitude to face whatever hands are dealt us.

It'll most likely be another month or more before we can get back
online. I've been doing my online banking over the past week or two.
After next week, I'll probably fade into obscurity until the computer
situation is resolved.

Thanks, Carol. I already knew a smattering about NF, but you've
enlightened me further. A friend of mine in college had NF, apparently
NF1.

I didn't know that Crash or his family members had it, although I did know
that it could be passed genetically. (I mis-read your earlier statment,
and thought you were speculating as to whether Crash had NF, therefore my
question.)

What a relief to have the good outcome from the CT scan!

Have they ruled out all forms of epilepsy? Blood glucose levels? I'm sure
there are many other possibilities that might cause seizures.

Do keep us posted on what you learn.

We haven't seen the doctor again. My memory is foggy, but I believe
that epilepsy can be one of those things that may accompany NF. I want
to talk to the doctor further about this. In the meantime, Crash isn't
doing any driving. His BGs are great. I'll keep ya posted. Seeing as
his daughter has the same issues, I'm suspicious that it may be a mild
form of epilepsy.

Thanks, kiddo. Crash just sent his faulty computer back to the (eBay)
seller. Hopefully, we'll have a new and improved one to share within
about a month. The guy has 100% positive feedback, so we're pretty
hopeful that we'll have a working system when it arrives. I really
miss MasterCook! LOL!

It's gonna be awhile. It seems that both computers were destroyed by
the same burned out memory stick. Crash is having his serviced by the
company (in Canada) where he purchased the computer. He figured it was
a problem with the system. The memory thing was a shocker for us.
Part of it is brown.

He should have his computer back mid-March. As for me, it'll probably
be more like April or May. I guess we have to get a new motherboard
and power supply, Dammit.

I'm not reading any of my mail (too much hassle at the library), so if
anyone has a message for me, please drop it into this thread, okay?
