Mark Hickey

Just for clarification purposes. I asked about Mark, not to
start another political debate, but to find out if he was
still w/us. I was glad to find out that he remains a member
of this insane group after we trashed his views a bit. I
think that this speaks well for many of us. We can have
passionate disagreements about some things, but we can still
remain "friends?"

Some have abandoned the political debate and replaced it
with linguistic satire. I think that this is perfectly
appropriate, even though this is not mentioned in the
subject line, because, as Sheldon pointed out, the subject
itself is redundant. Anyways, I am glad you are still with
us and I think that most of us love you even though we think
that you don't know what the c--p you are saying outside of
bikes. I bet that you feel the same way, but if this serves
as any consolation, "you are wrong". ;-)

Oh, out of sight, out of mind. Separate but equal etc. I
think the issue is in the right place and under the
appropriate heading "Why do they hate us..." It was not by
accident that I chose that heading and the two main
newsgroups to get the discussion rolling. I am glad to see
participation and various points of view being aired. I
think that is the best way to hear different sides of an
issue so that the merit of each can be judged.

I don't think this thread and title is appropriate and I
will not stoop to criticize anyones politics here.

Okay, at risk of taking this thread off-topic, I gotta ask:
fourth kind of lie?

The three I know of are:

1. Fabricate a complete and total untruth.
2. Tell the truth, but leave out enough critical facts to
obscure the truth.
3. Tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the
truth, but make it sound so ridiculous as to be totally
unbelievable.

(I didn't come up with these myself, but paraphrasically
plagarized them from R. Heinlein, I think...)

The twelfth edition contains an appendix listing the ten
kinds of lies, with examples drawn exclusively from the
efforts of the pathological liars of rec.bicycles.tech.

An errata slip conscientously corrects the explanation of
lie-type #9.d, pointing out that although in posts
