I guess it's the aftermath. It's not storming but a long, slow,
dreary rain. The rain is steady and currently washing all of my newly
put down grass seed around. I'm about to jump in the shower while the
chili simmers. Then I'll put on my jammies, make the cornbread and
salad and chill out for awhile to see if the ever absent Steven makes
it home in time to eat.

Oooh, what scary movies?! We're getting Rita fallout too. Had some
wind last night but after that just dreary rain as you describe. Nice
cool temps, though. I'm having chili, too. In fact I'd better eat some
before it gets too late!

It must be a "chili" night, no pun intended. I made a large pot of chili
this morning. We had a small taste for lunch, and I'll soon be baking a
pan of cornbread to go with a bowl of chili for suppoer. If I waited for
it to be rainy and dreary in Phoenix, I'd either have an eternal wait or
I'd have to do it during one of our 5-minute cloudbursts.

A new grocery store in my neighborhood had frozen roasted duck halves. So
I'm having creamed cabbage, roasted duck, and wide egg noodles with poppy
seeds and butter. Apple juice to drink.

Of course it got food. Actually all the feral kitties get fed. I just
checked on her. She did eat, looks like she had a big slurp of water and
hit the sack again. We have 3 feral cats hanging around. Bart (she's
asleep on my Jeep), Bill and Hateful. They all eat on the patio off the
kitchen and disappear. Bart hangs out a lot. I'm gonna catch her, vet her
and make her an indoor cat. She's Hoot's twin except Bart is real scrawny.

Lunch is hit or miss...don't know if I'll be eating it or not. More
likely
than not, I'll slice off a few hunks of the longhorn Colby I got in
Wisconsin and have it with some crackers.

Dinner turned out lovely. I didn't even manage the cheese and crackers,
shame on me. I've been under the weather, so that's probably it. But, for
dessert, I made this:

Mountainberry Crisp

6-8 large apples (I used Macintosh, Granny Smith, and Fuji)
1 pint blackberries (I used fresh)
1 pint raspberries (again, fresh)
3/4 cup sugar ( or Splenda for baking, see note)
3 tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon (I love cinnamon, used about 2 tsp)
juice of 1/2 lemon
NOTE: If using Splenda, make sure you use the baking kind or the filling
won't thicken properly.
Combine, making sure sugar and flour are well mixed with the fruit. Top
with:

1 cup flour
1 1/3 c light brown sugar
1 cup oats
2 stick butter
I pulsed everything except 1/2 c oats in the processor until it looked
crumbly, like pie dough. Then mixed in the remaining oatmeal.

Spread crumb mixture over fruit and bake in a 375* oven for 55 minutes. Top
will be deep golden brown and filling will be bubbly. Cool slightly and top
with cinnamon or vanilla bean ice cream.

It turned out delicious, and I'm planning on having a couple bites in the
morning before class!
Well, without the ice cream 🙂

We had sauteed flattened chicken breast rolled in breadcrumbs
flavoured with parmesan cheese and pasta tossed in a mixture of halved
cocktail tomatoes, olive oil, white wine vinegar, garlic, basil and

It's better to integrate them now. They'll actually get over the hissing
more quickly. Keep a spray bottle handy! :-)

Chances are good that your other kitties will not catch the ringworm. We
went through this with Peanut and Peewee (tuxedo brothers). They both had
rignworm when we got them. We bathed and medicated and kept them apart
from our other cats for a few days, then turned them loose. Our vet told
us that healthy cats already established in the household are not likely to
catch it because their immune systems are strong.
