Lubricants

I've been using tri-flow for a couple of years now, and am pretty impressed. It does leave black smudge all over the cogs and chainwheels, but it seems to repel dirt pretty well and stands up well to water, and will last for several rides. I also like the applicator tube-- to get that one drop right where you need it. For degreasing, I really like simple green--it's biodegradeable and water soluable.

I've used the Finish Line "Dry" and "Wet" lubricants as well as their wax product and been reasonably happy with them all. For comparison, White Lightning is quite a bit dryer than their wax lube, and consequently seems to make the drivetrain noisier. Both do an OK job keeping things clean and low-maintenance. I loved the "dry" lube for the summer in California when it doesn't rain, but even in the summer the "wet" lube is great for longer weekend rides (50+ miles); since it's a little more durable, you don't feel like it's breaking down on you towards the end of a ride. It won't shed dirt, though, so you need to make sure to clean the chain well and frequently.

Buy it online. You can than get the 16oz. bottle so that it last longer. The 16oz. is around 14-16 USD, but just think about how much you save on degreasers.

The important thing with Rock N Roll, is to not let the chain go on too long and get too dirty. Than you should degrease it and wash it really well. But if you apply pretty regularly, ~mabye ever week?, than you should have a super clean chain!

It is so clean that after touching the chain, the slight black "film" residue left from normal wear, just wipes of your hand. Before when I used to use [censored] chain lubes, that got my chain dirty, the gunk left over would bassically stain your hands black, and then you would need to use special degreasing soap used in auto shops. Well no more!

Have to say this Rock N Roll looks to be good, question is which one for road use, absolute dry or the extreme. Also any know of a website where i can order it, can't order off Rock N Roll website, have to ring them 😕

I just bought some Pedro's Ice Wax (the only lube my LBS stocks). I just put it on last night. Sure looks good, although I won't ride on it until tomorrow. We'll see.😉

get the extreme version of the Rock N Roll. Works good for anything.

I get it from there, and the service is fine.

I used to use Finish Line but when I moved, the new LBS didn't stock it. I picked up a bottle of ProLink Gold and I love it. Doesn't seem to attract much dirt and keeps things nice and quiet.

I don't reapply every ride as someone else suggested. I think thats a bit excessive?

Used to use Finish Line all the time however hated the build-up of grunge on cogs, chain, chainrings, derailleurs, jockey wheels, etc...
it made a mess which looked like tar. 😠 :eek:
Then bought Prolink and was amazed with how clean my drivetrain is...
will NEVER go back to Finish Line ever. Even if someone gave me a carton of the [censored].
Prolink apparently cleans the drivetrain as well as lubes it, if you can believe their ads. I just know everything looks 10 times cleaner

amazing how many people have contributed on this topic, and good to hear them all. My 2 cents sez that my chains don't squeak after 50 miles using ProLink where they used to with Finish Line teflon wax, and the scourge of dread waxy buildup doesn't appear. Haven't seen Rock and Roll, but, hey, lubes are cheap, and they make me think I'm doing some good in the world!

this being in relatively dry riding.

White lightning on the chain, Tri flow on all other pivot points.

I'm not sure I'd ride far on a dry chain.

I'm very happy with the Rohloff oil. Stays clean and lubes pretty well, a lot better than finish line.

I was all set to order the Rock N Roll lube and some degreaser too when i mailed aebike to see about shipping to Ireland and apparently they can't ship anything marked ORM-D overseas 😕. So it's starting to look like i'm gonna have to use crappy White Lightning or Finish Line or something 😠

Have used White Lightning and Finish Line for years but always found a build-up on the chain, chainrings, and cluster- this stuff resembled something you'd spread on a piece of toast, thick and black and yucky. Just like Vegemite.
So when I bought Pro-Link and began using it (have used it for 3 months now) I am amazed with how clean my drive train looks. Still has some minor buildup but nothing like what I am used to.

Good thread. I have been using Pedro's Ice Wax the past couple seasons on my Campy Record drivetrain. Earlier in the week, I soaked the chain and cassette in bio-degreaser. I re-applied the Ice wax very generously, let it sit and then wiped it down. The next day I re-applied and rode. Short ride, no problems. Yesterday I did a 46 mile race. Before the race I applied the Ice wax and wiped off the excess. About 30 miles into the race, the drivetrain was bone dry (??). I re-applied today and went out for an easy 30 mile spin and during the last 5 miles or so, it was dry again. I have some Pedro's road rage that I will be using, but is there a better way to clean a chain lubed with wax than soaking it in degreaser? It seems like the degreaser is keeping the wax from setting up properly. Thoughts?

I Started with brunox high speed a few years ago, in a little handy bottle, though they stopped selling this. Since then ive bought a few of their products, the first was top-kett which replaced the high speed for chains and gears. I purchased the special pack on their website last year which also included carbon care and turbo spray. I wouldnt have really bought turbo spray, however it seems to work everywhere its a bit of a wd40, well thats how i use it. I did however find the spray can for top-kett not the best, though i see now they offer a dropper bottle like the high speed i used to get.
