I need a new stand mixer, and am seriously considering a KitchenAid. Are there any other brands I should consider?
Kenwood is another great line. Probably better than KA, but it depends on what you like.

No, it *consumes* the most power... wattage is a measure of electricity consumed that you're billed for, not usable power output... a lot of that wattage represents power consumed to produce heat, not shaft power. Stand mixers are a pretty inefficient way to heat your home.
For the amount of dough kneading any of those countertop stand mixers can do, unless you are otherwise handicapped, your best kneading tools are those hooks at the ends of your arms... any normal person can easily make up two 2lb loaves worth of dough by hand. For the vast amount/type of mixing done in home kitchens any decent hand mixer is all that's necessary. 99% of KA stand mixers become overpriced countertop decorations/statuis symbols... that's mostly why they last so long. I have lots of stuff that's old and works like brand new.... ask me why my 40 year old top of the line Norelco shaver is in perfect condition...

The mixer in question *does* put out more power than any other in the KA line. It doesn't just consume the most, it put's out the most.
That's what the OP was asking about.
It's true you can't simply compare wattage ratings across different product lines because of varying levels of efficiency. It's also true that power ratings would be better expressed in horsepower or something.
So what? None of that addresses the OP's question. It also doesn't help him with his buying decision.

I just got mine from www.shopkitchenaid.com. This is the official kitchenaid online store.
They carry the Pro 600 (new) for $400... or you can get it from their outlet shop for $239, shipped free. The only differences between the two are a 6 month warranty vs a one year, and no mixing shield.
