How do you know that the problems would not have been much worse if you had
not been on the Atkins program? My guess is that your low-carb eating kept
you much healthier than you would have been otherwise and minimized your
    sumptoms.

This would make more sense than your negative take, since for most of us the
type of symptoms that you describe have all improved over time on Atkins.

My health has improved some since on the Atkins program. I stated that.

Yes I am much healthier. The pain in the knees, migraines, sleep apnea, IBS,
    have cleared up.

Questioning Atkins is a negative take? I don't think it is. One of the concerns
I stated was the eating of certain meats that can cause Gout, or Gout like
    symptoms.

  3. I hope it gets solved soon. I have a relative with fibromyalgia, and I
know it's no fun at all...

re: the bleeding - it is highly possible it's the Vioxx, as such things
often lead to dehydration in the colon (pain medications in general,
actually) and to bleeding - in which case, it's unfortunatly not the
    drug for you.

Hang in there... and be well.

    attacks.

Me too. I appreciate everyones support, thank you. I will make it to the doc to
see what to do next. Testing, etc.

I am starting school tomorrow. Can't wait. It will be of a big help to get out
of the house, and meet new people. I am taking graphic design.

I think so, the Vioxx. I been really taking it easy, not letting it all get to
me. The bleeding is still going on. Not as intense. I was able to hold food
down today. Been pretty much liquids all last week. The elbow swelling is down
    too.

Yesterday was a long day. First days are like that I think? I got this
beautiful graphic art design set, case and all. Art tools I never even heard
of. Lots of books. I am finding it hard on my back to carry the books around,
so looking into one of them bookbags on wheels.

It was such a busy day, I did not eat as well as I should've. Today I did
better. Classes are from 12-5. 10 minute breaks in between each class. There
are vending machines, but its all junk food.

I had a sausage patty and two boiled eggs for breakfast. (I cut them up into
small pieces, mix them together with a dash of hot sauce) Small salad for lunch
before school. I was getting really hungry towards the end of the day though.
    Drank lots of water.

Being active and busy, its helping me sleep better. (Bleeding also has
stopped). My doctor is trying to get the referral out to have another scope
    done.

Drawing class is my fave, along with Typography. Studied the history of
writing, the alphabet today. Was really interesting.

Soon as I picked up a drawing pencil, the teacher showing us how to hold it. I
knew I made the right decision. 🙂 Felt like I am home again. Its what I am
    meant to do.

Are you back to teaching now too? Hows it going for you?

The teachers I have, they are great!

Nimue: I have a Business Comm. Class. The book, workbook for the class, its a
English workbook. Remember I told you once about the horrible teacher I had
when a kid? The nouns, pronouns, proper nouns, verbs, adverbs. Its driving me
a little bonkers already. I may need some help, if you are up to it? Not yet,
but if needed, can I ask you for help? I wish I could say I like English as a
course. I just don't. Or perhaps its just the belittling teacher I had when a
kid. I was falling asleep in class just about. It may get better as the week
    goes on.

    Sunshyne ...

are you saying Fibro as in fibromyalgia?

Yes, fibromayglia. I also have degenerative disk disease, cervical and lumbar
    hernitated disks.

Then, I have to second the advice about the water. I find that on days
that I forget to drink much water, my pain flares horribly, so I want to
crawl into a hole and die. It took me a really long time to figure this
one out, since it was always also associated with me trying harder to be
strictly low carb and I would always blame the diet rather than the lack
of fluids. But recently I've been responding to that pain by drinking
huge glasses of water whenever I can and I'm much better within a few hours.

  11. I have chronic pain, but I don't use the F-word, because I know that's
how it's perceived by many people in the medical profession. Besides,
it doesn't explain anything. It's just a garbage term for pain that the
doctors can't figure out how to deal with. I've also stopped trying to
get the doctors to do anything about my pain. It's beyond their
abilities. Even with the Dx of fibromyalgia and a sympathetic doctor, I
was miserable on the drugs they recommended. So, I've dropped the Dx
    and I go it alone.

I do appreciate friends though that understand what it's like. So,

I have two items about that:

For the past few years, my mother has been thinking that she has fibromyalgia,
suffering with the pain, sleeplessness, depression and fatigue, etc. She
recently went to a neurologist who found that she may have a disc problem in
her lower back, which may account for the pains that she gets in her legs. She
is waiting to hear about the MRI she had yesterday, but is hopeful that there
    may be a tangible diagnosis.

Secondly, I know of a woman with fibromyalgia who has been institutionalized
after it was found that she had become dependent on many different painkillers.
She had amassed 26 different prescriptions from all the different doctors she
had been to. She was not getting out of bed and was terribly depressed. That
is all I know of that situation, but it is a cautionary tale about drugs and
the lack of answers about this condition.

  13. The talk here about fibromyalgia reminds me of when I got diagnosed with
depressio years back. Physical pain was one of the symptoms of my
    depression.

And then I read on here that depression is one of the symptoms of
    fibromyalgia.

I wonder if fatigue, depression, and fibromyalgia are really all part of
the same syndrome. Whether it's in the mind or the body or both doesn't
really matter. The mind is in the brain and the brain is part of the body,
so it's all connected anyway. Studies show that a good attitude improves
cancer survival rates, and that depressed people catch more viruses, so
even if fibromyalgia turns out to have a non-physical cause, that doesn't
mean it's not a real problem.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

  14. Well, It is really depressing to be in pain and not to be able to find
relief. But I am not generally a depressed person. I have no doubt at
all that there is a physical cause for my pain. I suspect it is
something really simple, like not enough potassium in my diet or
something like that, especially since the doctors have ruled out the
bigger, more easily identifiable causes. It does seem to be chemical in
nature, since diet can affect it, though it can't drive it away
    entirely. Oh well.

  16. I've had more MRI's than I want to count. I'm sure that if they did one
on my lower back they would probably discover that the degraded disk in
my lumbar region has worsened, but I frankly don't want to know about
it. I am controlling my pain with diet, large amounts of very careful
appropriate exercise, and a very small amount of one last medication
that sometimes helps when nothing else does. I'm not interested in
finding out that I need surgery. I've heard too many stories of
surgeries that didn't really fix the problem. Besides, every time I let
a doctor fiddle with my back (or face, or neck) things get worse. I
have a 13 year litany of problems that spiralled out of control as a
result of a whole string of bad medical/chiropractic/dental
interventions. They really don't know what they're doing, and I'm not
letting them experiment on me any more.

By the way, I realize this is a YMMV thing. I hope your mother finds
relief. Sometimes surgery really is called for, and you're also right
about drug abuse. Sometimes chronic pain can lead to terrible
dependency on pain-killers. I've avoided that myself, but the warning
    is a valid one.

    Hi Sunshyne,

I'm glad you are doing this. I am a graphic designer, so I am always making
stuff. When a project is going well, it is very fulfilling.

I recently started going to figure drawing sessions, you pay for each session
and it is without an instructor. I invited my 86 year old artist neighbor to
go with. She has been sick with cancer and it all looked very grim for her,
but she is doing well (they even took away her hospice nurse). I thought the
figure drawing would be a nice thing for her. She just loves it and makes sure
she goes even when I'm not able to. I think that creating is theraputic, but
even more important, it is stimulating, it is exercise, it is good for your
    head.

I hope you enjoy your classes.

I'm sorry you and Sunshyne, and all the other posters here are having such a
difficult time. I can certainly understand the frustration with the fiddlings
of doctors. Until they know what the heck this syndrome is, they are indeed
    experimenting.

I doubt that my mother will opt for surgery. She says the doctor she went to
is partial to non surgical treatments. I think she really just wants some kind
of answer to the mystery, as do all of you. Also, she is very cautious about
pain medication and sleeping pills, rarely takes them.

I've been encouraging her to go to a local pool that has a pain management
program (warm pool with aquatic exercises). She procrastinates, but may
finally pull it together and try it out. I think it was Lurker who mentioned
that she gets relief from her aquacise program. I meant to ask her about it,
    but lost her post.

BTW, my mother has had terrible problems with Crohn's disease, though it is in
remission, with occasional flareups. It is interesting that so many people
with fibromyalgia also have autoimmune problems.

really matter.

So,
you're welcome to email me off list if you ever just want to complain.

Then you should find some smarter, more knowledgable doctor friends. FMS
patients have biochemical and other abnormalities that folks without FMS
    don't
    have.

Only a lazy, dismissive as@hole doc uses it interchangably with
    hyPOCHONDRIA.

Now we all understand. Ignorant as@holes tend to flock to one another.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

I think its all different cases of what the cause is. For me, yes it could be
depression. I think I already mentioned some personal stuff, on what I been
through growing up, and into my adulthood. Post traumatic stress, it could be a
trigger. I think it is for me. But then also, the car accidents could of just
been too much for my body to handle. Its confusing trying to explain it. Nerve
damage, or adrenal fatigue I figure into it.

I was depressed before the Fibromyalgia set in. Long Long term untreated
depression. Yet anti-depressants do nothing for the pain with FMS.Them meds
don't make me feel better. For me it don't. It just took alot of inner work,
coping skills, stress reduction. To get to where I am today. Therapy.

I don't look at the diagnosis of FMS as something really bad. I have grown so
much from it. I wouldn't trade it. Like what I was before, to what I am now. I
like what I have become. Even if I live every day in physical pain.

Of course though, I would like to feel better. I think I am doing everything
    possible to feel better.

    || Yesterday was a long day. First days are like that I think? I got

I can imagine. makes you wonder if they will ever develop the softbook - a

They should. Really they should. I got alot of books, I think around 7. Then
sketch pads, the art set. I figured it out better today though. Dis some strap
adjustments on the art set. Took only half the books for the first part of the
day, then back to the car, got a snack, unloaded, reloaded books.

Gotta get that worked out, huh?

Got a three day weekend coming up. Going to do some menu plans, make it easier.
When I get home, I don't feel like cooking. So hunting down some crockpot
recipes to. Or just stirfrys. Today I took some straweberries, olives, pecans.
A little of each. Its working itself out.

Making chicken parmasean (sp) right now. With some cut up and fryed up

Well, didn't fall asleep in class. Took better notes, highlighted more stuff.
Going to study tonight. The graphic teacher said to practice some doodling
too.Whenever we feel like it. So doing that too. Working on abstract drawings.
It opens up the creative side of the brain more so. Like ink blots sorta.
