  1. Having been very lucky throughout my years of cycling, this season has been a disaster thus far.

In an effort to try to maintain fitness, I decided to join a weekly indoor fottball session consisting of one hour indoor kickabout (5-a-side).
This entails having to run like a maniac for the best part of sixty minutes and it is a very good workout.
before i start each session, i go through an extensive warmup of stretching.

My problems started when having gone for a long spin, the achilles tendons in both legs became very very sore.
In fact they were both so sore, that I could barely walk.
I assumed that this was as a result of playing football and my system not being used to the twisting/turning motion involved in football.
I rested up, applied linament, and waited for the recovery.
To aid the recovery, i went to the local swimming pool hoping that a small amount of swimming might help me.

My achilles tendons gradually started to loosen up and after a couple of days I started to feel better.
I went out for another football session and ended up with the same condition.
Tendons is total [censored] - and being literally unable to walk.

Having never suffered from tendonitis/heavy legs, I am at a loss as to what the solution to this.
Realistically I should be able to participate in both sports without any difficulty.

have any of you suffered from severe tendonitis> And if so did you derive a solution to your problem?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. FWIW hyaloronic acid is good for keeping tendons hydrated.

  3. Best thing for tendonitis is to avoid it in the first place.

Absence that, I've found the normal routine of ICE/HEAT/IBUPROFEN to be working wonders for me. Don't know about a causal relationship but I also take Vitamin E daily and eat lots of red meat. Back when I was playing football (American) tendonitis was a pretty common occurrence (back of the knee/hamstring tendons) and ice/heat was the universal mode of treatment in all the training rooms (university and professional) I'd visited.

Regarding my own recent bout with some hip tendonitis, I could barely walk on Friday and today I've already rode the bike 1/2hr at 200w. No increased soreness. I'll go out this evening for another 11/2hrs at <200w. YMMV.

  4. Thanks fellas.

It could just be a case of old age setting in with me too.

Legs have improved since last Friday.
I've decided to fully rest and then ease gently back in to it.

    Thanks again

    Lim,

By far the most important element of treating tendonitis is keeping heat on the affected area to promote the best blood flow possible. Keep a heating pad on the affected area whenever possible. Tendons have poor blood supply and hence slow healing, so anything to facilitate increased blood flow will speed healing.

I'm probably preaching to the choir in the previous paragraph, but I'm amazed at my recovery from this initially debilitating bout with tendonitis - even at my advanced age of 42😉 .

  6. My spelling was wrong it's hyaluronic acid
