Don't quote the law if you're going to get it wrong.
Undertaking is not an offence. Sections of the Highway
Code refer to Road Traffic Law will say "you must (not)".

Don't quote my posts if you're going to get it wrong: I did
not say it was an offence, I said it was a violation of the
Highway Code. I'm aware of the difference, thank you.

No, because there you have separate lanes - I believe this
matter is covered separately in the Highway Code.

Do you have any evidence that it is dangerous?

Yes, I've seen people knocked off or having near misses
through cycling up the inside. YMMV.

In the case where a cycle lane is painted in the road, it
specifically allows it. Does the presence or absence of
the paint make a material difference to the safety?

Yes, of course it does. Are you being facetious? A marked
cycle lane is a separate lane and cars are not permitted to
    cross the line.

    Quoted message said:

The previous poster said "stationary traffic"

Temporarily stationary, as opposed to parked - and liable to
move again as soon as the car in front moves.

    Quoted message said:

I presume you would say that if there is a stationary
(say, broken down, or even obviously intending to turn
right but failing to signalling) vehicle in the middle of
the road then all vehicles have to cross over to the RH
    lane to get past legally.

    Now that is *definitely* facetious.

    Quoted message said:

Undertaking queues is an entirely reasonable and sensible
procedure (circumstances permitting) so long as it is done
    with appropriate care.

Yeahyeahyeah... and driving at 110mph is perfectly safe if
    you're a sensible driver...

There is no such thing as a violation of the Highway Code.
The Highway Code is not law, it's a booklet of advice that
makes reference to some Road Traffic law.

The verb "to violate" has a legal sense but it applies
equally to rules, commandments, faiths, abstract and moral
qualities, promises, people, property, chastity, privacy...
and so on. Perhaps my meaning might have been clearer if I
had used different wording but since you're just splitting
hairs rather than providing a meaningful counter-argument,
    it doesn't really matter.

That rather depends on whether it is a mandatory or an
advisory cycle lane, and also whether it has defined hours
    of operation.

Surely outside of defined hours it's to be treated as Not A
    Cycle Lane, no?

As for "advisory" cycle lanes, they're just not worth the
paint - there's no practical difference between an advisory
cycle lane and no cycle lane at all.

Anyway, I take your point - it is a fair one.

How can you say that? They remind those pesky cyclists to
cower in the gutter where they belong, rather then delaying
proper traffic in tis headlong rush to the next traffic jam.
