Depends a lot on what bent you have, the mean temperature in your area and your weight (you and the
bent)...(be specific).

In general...E-Motors do get hot, but you can use elaborate heat sinks and fans to cool them down.
Best to have a controller (outside) the motor. Use NiMH batteries to keep the weight down (less wear
on the motor).

Cannot say which unit is best without more details 1st.

Here goes with the details. I have a RANS Rocket, I weigh 155, the rocket weights about 29 without
the motor and battery, I would probably carry another 5 pounds clothes food, etc. temperatures vary
from 90 F to 10 F. I probably would not ride in lower temperatures. Several mornings the temperature
is 20 to 40 and then in spring and summer it can be from 32 to 70.

the rocket has twin 406 wheels and therefore you will have a lower top speed, using a 451 rear wheel
might add a mere1 mph. A Currie USPD (silver can) with a 19 tooth sproket will give you the hill
climbing torque with minimal/moderate pedaling. The 406 wheel and lower number of teeth will give
you the lower speed but higher torque you'll need for hills (with minimal stress on the 400 watt
motor). Downside is your flat cruise speed will be down to 12 mph without pedal assist...but 12 mph
is descent. IF you can get them, use Li-ion or NiMH batteries and store the pack into a seatback
bag. Using the heavier SLAs could see you popping a wheelie. Nice thing about NiMH battery pack is
it is lightweight enuff to carry off your bent and recharge where U work.

A FWD Hub motor (might) work too, but the front weight would make steering a rocket risky in a
turn...FWD Hubs tend to be very heavy. Hope it helps!
