and also people without bike sheds find their bike ownership restricted.

That's what is currently limiting by number of bikes. I've got four but one of those is in a friends
shed for space reasons.

My *guess* is there's plenty of room in a multi-person outfit for both. I doubt it would make much
sense for *everyone* to have an 8, but I can envisage plenty of possibilities for more than 1 load
needing a courier bag to go somewhere at once. And you can get ~5 BOBs for the same money!

That's the bit I don't understand. Assuming all essentials (food, house, etc) are paid for, what a
person spends their "surplus" cash on is up to them [1] IMO.

Perhaps it comes down to perception of what constitutes "essentials"?

Yes, hence the "somewhere to keep them" proviso above (although as I mentioned in another thread,
this can include the living room in some cases). Perhaps I'm just an unusually tolerant spouse :-)

For over here (where they do have lights), I'm wondering where there's a good supplier of
retroflective tape. You used to be able to get blue, which was nice. I'm thinking blue, about a
couple of mm wide preferably, which could be used to mark out the shape of a bike frame, also white
and yellow in various shapes and sizes. There were once some very impressive sheets of white
rectangles which looked very shiny. Not seen them about for a while.
