if not for the mechanicals and the getting caught up in wrecks, Lance would be within the top five right now so let's see, if the tables were turned and Cav got caught up in the mayhem, do you think he could make up the time that Lance has to right now? neither do i.

i'm figuring that Lance is about to ambush everyone or i'd suspect that he has absolutely no alternative other than to do just that but i guess if everyone else now realizes that Lance, being in 14th position but further back down in time, now 3:++ minutes, then it's really not an ambush at all as everyone knows he has to do it and do it now.

I'm finding this thread pretty amusing. Cavendish will certainly finish on the podium and possibly has the chance to beat Contador on the Tourmalet (both stages):o

Maybe, but he's now 3:16 behind the leader whereas yesterday he was 1:51 which was the biggest deficit he ever had, and today more then doubled that deficit! I think the beast is old. But you may be right, one can only hope.

Yeah I don't see it happening tomorrow. I mean if there is a crack in the field and Lance is at the right place right time maybe and with the rest day to recover monday it wouldn't be a terrible time to attack just to feel out the strength of Contador, Schleck and Evans.

What I know about Lance and Johann though is they have just 3-5 stages in mind for lance to make time on the GC, the cobblestones were a great tactical point I know he was expecting to gain time on his rivals rather than lose it. Contador is still the biggest threat to #8 for #21, if he goes into the TT behind but close to Andy or Cadel he will pass them in time and maybe on the road, AC though has a decent time trial so LA will need to be very close or ahead or have the form of his old self back.

I think LA will wait out the Alps take advantage if he can but just steadily rise in the GC rank without taking out any real time against the other big guys. The Alps will shake up the standings and maybe Cadel, Andy, and some of the other strong climbers will attack in turns I can see AC getting exhausted by a barrage of attacks day after day and Lance taking time out of the leaders in a planned attack in the Pyrenees. Then as I said if he is ahead of AC but behind CE or AS he can TT to victory.

Don't make fun of someone expecting a Green Jersey guy to finish in yellow, Eddy Merckx had both in '75, also in polka dot and was age 24but before the white jersey existed, and Cavendish... well isn't Eddy Merckx.
