Just found this NG today and thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Darrin and I ride in Southern California 2-4 times a week. I'm 36 and this is my fourth year riding. My bike is a 2002 Trek Fuel 90 with Avid mechanical discs. I'm lovin' this bike, except the chain suck that sucks even though it's infrequent.
Just finished riding Big Laguna Trail and Noble Canyon in East San Diego County today with a couple of friends. Loving the pain I'm feeling now. Sucks I have to work tomorrow...

What type of cranks you got on that bike? Would they wouldn't be Bonti's, would they?

Unless he's changed his stock setup, they are.
(But I'll mention again that I haven't had chain suck issues on my old Fuel 90 or on my new Sugar, both of which have those cranks.)

They were until I bent one like a pretzel in a crash. I had to do an emergency unbending with a large rock just so I could ride out. Replaced with Shimano XT cranks.

At 26, I'm pretty young ...
Anyway.
Weds: 30 miles of jeep trail Thurs: 12 miles of biking Fri: ice hockey Sat: hiking Sun: mountain biking, ice hockey
I believe I'm due for a rest. I might do some weight training if I'm feeling feisty.

And now you're running the new chainrings with the old chain and getting chain suck. Am I close?

Welcome!
Your band sounds pretty good.
Thanks bro. If you're in my neck of the woods when we do a show email me at darrin at tommyhomicide period com and I'll get you in the door. Same for anyone else here.
Rockin' and ridin'; That's what weekends were made for.

Welcome. JD hates your bike! (You'll find out soon enough since you mentioned the F word) 🙂
You know, I've seen a lot of people posting to various message boards that have this bike, so it may be more popular than I thought. I rarely see Fuels on the trail.

Well, that's JD's theory proved!
That people who own Fuels leave them sit in their garage while they post on message boards all day? :-)
