I don't imagine they're fake. I'm guessing it's a famous brand. Maybe
they just aged too much somewhere along the line.

Now I understand! Those are Summer truffles. When fresh they have some
taste, but canned it must pretty much disappear. The real truffles are
the Winter truffles, either the black one from Périgord (France) or
the white ones from Piemonte (I'm partial to the white ones - and of
course, those are the expensive ones...)

I'm going to have to rent a pig and visit Pandora in Italy and go
hunting for truffles. 🙂
I notice that the winter truffles are almost 4x the price of the summer
ones.
