Not true! http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/bracket.html shows the start times for all matches in July, except for July 1 are 2000 or later local time, which is the same as France time. July 1 is the prologue anyway, so it will be finished well before 1700 (I hope).

No timetable clash!!!

He wont be for sure, its a good decision. I wouldnt blame them if no team turned up. The parcours are nasty. The grupetto will need to be motoring as well. CSC have brought a really strong team for Basso, i think he will win but i have doubts over him winning the Tour then as well.

Evans i suspect will do the usual Tour buildup with the Dauphine. With Ullrich chubby and an unknown again and with Basso *possibly* comming out of the Giro exhausted, those events could conspire to open up the Tour podium spots even more.

Dont forget Brown is starting the Giro so that should make for some even more hostile sprinting to go with McEwen. I think Brown might be able to pinch a stage win. With Petacchi not having the services of that monster Velo its possible Milram wont be able to lead it out as per usual, so should make it even more rough and ready.

I don't know - Basso handled the Giro/Tour double pretty well last
year. And given that he has another year under his belt, and hopefully
none of the illness-troubles that struck him mid-way through last
year's Giro, I reckon he could do the double.

He seems to be one of those riders that thrives (relatively!) under
heavy workloads.....

Anyway, we'll all know in a few months... *grins*

Just Petacchi, no Zabel. Apparently Petacchi wasnt going to do the Giro coz there isnt enough stages for sprinters. That was until a deal was struck where he agreed to do it if the extra climb planned for San Remo wouldnt be added this year.

I guess he will still get a decent leadout by Ongarato.

It would be good to see Brown win a stage or two. I don't think he has
won anything yet this season (but finishing 2nd/3rd to Boonen,
Petacchi, Zabel can't be too bad).

He was ripping up the field in Langkawi last year, so here's hoping
he'll step up in the Giro.
