  oh and there is a funny variation between Ireland and Australia (International rules..ha! bi-nation rules more likely, that neither nation plays other than when they meet one another in a beer and pie eating contest interspersed with running around in the mud kicking a soccer ball over Soccer Rugby Post type structures...if that counts as a game...

That's way less than play in the national canoe polo league in the UK, and
most people haven't even heard of canoe polo! I think even octopush (go on,
Google it) would beat BARFL in numbers. That said, even if AFL were only
played in Australia it would warrant inclusion in SBS's world sport
coverage. At least it's not like the "World Series Baseball" in the US
where, IIRC, they have a token Canadian team or something to justify the
"World" part.

Depending on which sports historians you read, rugby union was the basis of rugby league, Australian rules, American football and Canadian football. All except soccer.

Thomas Wills (a distant relative of mine) who was credited with inventing Aussie rules (along with his cousin Henry Harrison) spent 4 years playing football at the Rugby School and it is claimed used the football game there as the basis of Aussie rules (along with aboriginal games and gaelic games he had seen played). Wills later went mad and committed suicide by stabbing himself through the heart with a pair of scissors.

Nah, the grog got him. He was a hopeless alcoholic. On the other hand, Harrison, his cousin, was a pillar of society and ended up the Registrar of Titles in Victoria.

So, one went mad and the other ended up having a job that must have been as boring as bat sh!t.

I'm only doing the half century on Sunday.

But you are right, I'm actually not looking forward to Sunday as I
haven't been off road since the Sydney 24 Hour and I felt really
ordinary on my road bike last weekend.

Whoops, I should have clarified what I said earlier.

By saying "And I have been trying to get myself to ride it for the last
2 weeks" I meant I have been trying to get up early to ride up Bronte
Road before going to work.

The alarm goes off at 6am and I wake up to turn it off ...

dont get me wrong. Lance will always define an amazing space in memories of TdFs but it was all somewhat of a procession after each first Alps sweep.

Happened to see (didnt have the volume up) a snippet on Channel 9's late news of Cadel's win. Couldn't turn the volume up, as I had fallen off the couch in shock.

Did I hear corrrectly on World Sport last night, that Cadel will now be
skipping the Giro to focus on the Tour??

A bit disappointing (as a fan who'll follow the Giro...). But its
pretty awesome having an Aussie rider that is "skipping the Giro to
focus on the Tour" (if you know what i mean!!).

conflicts between the two similar to the Ashes tour and the TdF last

planned that there won't be clashes. Regards

So are they saying the TdF and World Cup organisers got together so

It could be possible that the TdF and World Cup organisers got
together.

After all, the World Cup is in Germany and the Germans want to hear
Deutschland Uber Alles being played on the Champs Elysees in July ...

Though if I was a betting man I would put on money on Germany grinding
its way towards another World Cup final than Jan arriving in Paris
wearing yellow.
