Fox Forks?

comments on leaking seals and clanking bushings.

Is this endemic to Fox? A bad run? Something that's been fixed for
2006?

A good friend just switched from a fox to a Marzocchi bomber because he
couldn't keep the fox seals from leaking.....

Come to think of it, maybe that's why Marzocchi seals cost $45 and Fox seals
only cost $15... -)

My TALAS RLC leaks a little on the right leg - but not enough for me to
care, and not enough to notice when I change the oil every year. I
understand that Enduro seals fix this. They cost what Bomber seals
cost, however...

A customer's F100X leaked, and we replaced the seals. Not sure how it's
been since, but we haven't seen him back in a couple months.

I have a 2005 F100X. Thats with the terra logic. ( locks out until it hits a
bunp).
For the first 2-3 months, thats around 200-400 miles, yes there was a little
oil around the stanchions. And yes. I could feel the lock dis-engage.
According to Fox, a little oil is normal ( read the owners manual).
Anyway, after the break in period, there has never been any oil on the
stanchions, and the lock works flawlessly. The fork is plush when needed,
and is locked out on uphill and when smooth trails.
I must say, I can't even feel it engage, it just works, and works well.
Dang, and the extra power from not fighting the fork!!!
I now have a 1 or 2 thousand ( heck maybe more.)miles on the Fox, and it
works perfect!!
Used to be in the Bomberhood, now I love my Fox!!!

The bad reviews are from people that just don't seem to understand whats
up.... the F100 series is a cross country fork, not made to freeride.

When hammering up a hill there is around 1/4-1/2 of movement. This is due
to the sag that is present.
Only when I hit a bump does the fork go active for a few seconds, and then
locks again.
W/O the fork pumping, all that energy goes to the rear wheel. Well, what
little energy I have anyway....

I've seen some very leaky 2004 Fox forks, not so many leaky 2005 forks but
still a few. My 2005 F100RLs started leaking at about 1500 kms. When I had
the seals replaced I also had some rockshox boxer seals put in just above
the bushings. This added a smidge of stiction but they haven't leaked a
drop in the last 5000 km.
I've also seen some loose bushings that have been replaced under warranty.
Mine have a just perceptable amount of play but was told this was 'in spec'
it hasn't got any worse and there's no sign of wear on the stanchions.

After every ride I brush away any dirt accumulated on the dust seals and
wipe of any dirt/mud that's hardened on the stanchions.
