Just looking at my calendar for '05 and got thinking that surely it
must be about time for an official expedition?
So.. to start the ball rolling... Does anybody fancy somewhere in the
Peak District (resists temptation to call them 'the peaks' oops delete
delete) in late April? (How about the 23rd/24th?)
(I should quickly point out that I've never been to the peak district -
so am biased in my suggestion!)

Oops! <hangs head in shame> you're probably quite correct. I'm stuck
with google groups as my news-reader at the moment and finding this is
a little challenging. Are there any dates proposed yet?

sites book shows no caravans, but the Web site has a CC Logo.
Investigating. I am too old for a tent anymore.
I have towed Holme Moss both ways so Kirkstone pass should be OK.

Last time we were there they let campervans in but probably not caravans.

Sounds good. Not used the campsite, but some great walking from
Patterdale.
Not too worried about the dates, available for a visit to The Lakes most
weekend. Long drive from the south coast ........... but worth every mile.

This was in the newsletter they emailed me a while back, and on the website
too if it's of any help:
"We have received permission from the Caravan Club to provide facilities for
five members' caravans on the flat land beyond the Barn End Bar. We are
currently looking into the knock on effects of this for parking etc."

The good news is that they will let me caravan there.
The bad news is that I will have to join the Caravan Club to use the CC CL
registration, at a cost of GBP32 :-(

Sykes campsite?
Campsite is good, there used to be 2 small pubs, a largish shop and a large
flat field. It can be crowded in holiday periods. I've used it twice and it
was very good if a little (er...make that much) expensive. There's a
bunkhouse around, a few B&B's as well, and then theres' a YHA in Patterdale
(5 minutes drive away).
Great walking area, at least 4 days without driving your car around can be
had. Kirkstone Pass is a bugger to drive up if you don't have a powerful
motor.
I can make it anytime in April and I look forward to seeing you all.

The Lakes in April is something I can probably do, especially if I can share
the journey with someone else to save costs. I am flexible on dates but make
a decision soon!
I camped at Brotherswater back in 1997 and it was great, if a little pricey
back then. Food there was excellent then, hope it's as good now.
