Sounds good Stuart. I've decided that walking sucks and
I've taken up cycling. But I will still turn out for Ex 15
with my trusty Argos. Is this an Ex 15 fantasy thread or
are we actually going to do it?

We *always* do the Snowdonia anniversary expeditions! :-)

I'll be there, even if I'm on my own.

I don't guarantee doing much walking, but I might make it,
    depending on where and when.

That was a good one. We had a BBQ. We failed to walk

Ah that's right. I wasn't feeling too good that weekend so I
    missed the main walk.

Statistically (sp?) he's correct. There have been two
anniversaries. Adn they have both been well attended.

At a guess, last weekend in July and ...... er, Snowdonia.

Nope, three anniversaries (Rhinogs / Nantlle / Arenigs) plus
the original makes four Snowdonia visits in July this
    millennium.

    Any thoughts?

How "serious" are these u.r.w. expeds? I'd like to come
along but may have trouble keeping up if you've all got long
legs. I'm quite happy to leave the main group and wander off
(on an easier route) on my own ...... but I wouldn't want to
    appear rude!

So, is the emphasis on climbing big hills quickly or are
there some slow ones amongst you, too?

The answer to your second question is Yes ....and Yes :-)

There are those sprinters, and then there's me and Fran and
Paul (if he's not up to it:-) ) and one or two others.

Fran, Paul, David Laight and I didn't do the Nantlle Ridge,
but we walked the pass of Aberglaslyn instead - a delightful
riverside walk which suited the little people - Katharyn
    Thomas and Pickle.

As far as I know we all enjoyed the weekend including the
    midge ridden BBQ.

  14. Of course it will hurt! That's the whole point, isn't it?

    Judith said:

Very serious. At 6am in the morning you will be blatantly
ignored and forced to wake up as late as you like. The
walking will start very early, but not until we've all
agreed that it's half past nine. After the walk you will be
forced to drink large quantities of alcohol and then find
your way back to your tent unaided. The following day you
will be forced to do it all again, after you've taken a few
    tablets for your headache.

Normally you would be forced to accompany the main group
and cover a minimum of 25 miles carrying a heavy daysack
(kit will be inspected, be sure your first aid kit covers
all eventualities) and bagging at least 10 Nuttalls
enroute, plus at least 3 Marilyns. But since you're a
girlie you may be allowed to wimp out and only do the 15
mile alternative walk (cripplies and girlies only).
However, you must buy twice as many rounds in the pub
    afterwards to qualify for this.

    Quoted message said:

Yes, as a warm up we usually begin with a race to the top of
Tryfan, to see who will be the first to meet Roger who'll be
    waiting at the top.

    Quoted message said:

The slow ones will be kicked out on Friday night. The next
slowest will be kicked out on Saturday night. By Sunday only
    the fittest will have survived.

    Still fancy joining us?

More than some. It is the faster* walkers that tend to be
very much in the minority. I think some of the walk times
have come out at more than double Naismith.

*Faster in this context is a relative term. Not so slow
    would be a better description.

Please visit my web-site and follow my Walks link to the

of Paul wearing a HEAD TORCH in the middle of the day -
that's the condition he was in :-)

Paul didn't do the main walk on Saturday - he didn't wake
properly till Sunday. BTW on Saturday alongside the River
Glaslyn we had to physically restrain Fran from jumping into
    the river to cool off!

I seem to be picking on Paul, nothing personal - I
shouldn't really as I was with him all the time in just the
    same state.

Well, I've never done Tryfan as it just looks like a big
[censored] heap to me but I am perfectly able to lounge around in
    my sleeping bag till
9:30 AM and I'm also capable of buying rounds in pubs (even
Rhyd Ddu pubs who change their prices depending on whether
the drinkers are English or Welsh).

I also have an Argos Tent (pro-action 1-man (although the
man wasn't included)), a GPS receiver, a digital camera and
Aldi walking poles so feel qualified to join a urw
    expedition.

    Count me in.

Oh, I'm sorry. Have I said the wrong thing?

I'll re-phrase. "I have never done Tryfan as, when I go
walking, I prefer to use my feet rather than my hands."

    (Is that any better?)

<Waves> Here be one overweight and underfit female of the
rotund persuasion. I walk very slowly these days due to lack
of recent exercise. Very bad of me I know. I can just about
keep up with Bill, who's around 20 years my senior. So,
while some of the group will be racing over the tallest and
pointiest tops they can manage, I'll be the one plodding
along at the back or doing the lowland stroll. Also, it's
not unknown for me to bring my younger boys with me, now
aged 9 and 6, so I don't do the long distances that the
'professionals' here do. I might manage to get to Exp 15,
but I certainly won't be joining in with the main group
    either on speed or distance.
