  1. What do you do to prevent uncontrolled snacking in the
evenings? I'm fine during the day, even though I'm home
alone, for the most part. I have trouble remembering to eat
lunch, but I seldom nibble. But after 9pm I'm in trouble.

DH works from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am. Our daughter, son-in-law,
and grandson live with us (I have rheumatoid arthritis, my
husband has heart disease.) and help make life more
enjoyable by taking on the care and maintenance of
everything we can't do. But DGS is in bed around 9pm, and DD
and DSIL usually go up around then, too. And it's me, the
furkids, and the refrigerator. It's too late for sewing
much, so I usually read, ride my bike for a few miles, surf
TV, check out the computer, etc. And snack. And I know it's
boredom and habit. I lecture myself, but still snack.

    How do y'all not snack?????

Eat the balance of your food during the day when you are
active: late snacking leads to weight retention. I find that
raw carrots or zero point soups fill the gaps quite nicely.

Why is 9 pm too late to sew? I do most of my best work
between 10 pm and 2 am! 😉 No interruptions, no
distractions, and I'm upstairs away from the fridge!

  4. I like fat-free microwave popcorn in the evenings. It lets
me munch in front of the tv if I want to.

  5. My evenings are usually spent in front of the TV and laptop
catching up on my newsgroups and frequently find myself
wanting to snack as you do. I try and save my dessert,
usually NF ice cream (2 points), til around 8pm as my
evening snack. If that does not satisfy me then I will pop a
snack size LF popcorn (2 points) or have some fruit. I also
drink lots of water to keep the munchies under control.

  6. I don't know :>😉 I seem to make my biggest mistakes at
night. When my MIL was alive I often sewed in the evening,
but I'd quit when she turned in (next room). Maybe it's a
    habit. Sharon

  7. I am a grazer so I accepted that I need to eat every two hours or so and I
plan for the things that are good for me, there is nothing wrong with the
act of snack, the problem is what you are snacking on, sometimes I make a
regular portion of food, meat, veg and starch and put in the micro. Then
when I want a bite of something I go to that plate, also, before you get a
snack, make yourself drink a glass of water and wait ten minutes. good

  10. Evenings were always my worst time of day, not sure what or
if I did anything conciously to change that. As I lost the
weight, I found my evening snacking decreased majorly. Now I
pretty much only have a treat such as icecream or skinny cow
when I watch the news in the evening. And after that, I only
allow myself either one serving of meringue cookies, or
fruit ... and only if I'm truly hungry. I think that may
have been what got me out of the evening munchies - just
changing those old habits. You probably are going to have to
force yourself to be more concious about the evening
munching. Maybe allow yourself a few points for treats, but
put them off a bit and decide if you are really hungry or
just bored. If bored, then reach for a glass of water or tea
... cut up some veggies or strawberries (I found
strawberries go an awfully long way) ... or slice up an
apple and munch on that. It takes about 6 weeks to change a
habit, but the end results are well worth it. If all else
fails, take a nap or go to bed early. I found those munching
feelings tend to disappear when asleep. <G>

  12. My leader had a great suggestion for this problem last week.

She suggested changing the hours you start your points for
the day, i.e. count points from 4pm till 4pm as one day.
Then you can eat to your heart's content before bet, but you
have to make it till 4pm the next day with only your
remaining points after the night's pig-out.

So maybe you have an egg white & veggie omelette for a
couple points for breakfast and some cheezy veg. soup for
lunch - 2 points - and you can still make it till 4pm.

Once you force yourself to go all day with very little food,
it becomes much easier to control yourself at night.

Makes sense to me, though I haven't had to use it because
I'm not a nighttime snacker. I get through the evening by
nursing a glass or two of wine and I don't snack. The wine
is all I require to be happy!

    cary

  13. Two glasses of wine and I'd be walking around (maybe) with a
silly grin plastered on my face, or sound asleep.
    Hmmmm............on the other hand.................=>😉

  14. Veggies are pretty much free. Salsa by the spoonful.
Pickles. Or even fruits but more limited.

But it is not that easy, here, either.
