I'm about a 1 1/2 hour drive from lake George, it's really a beautiful
area. I'm positive that toys r us boat was overloaded, no way can that
wind-up toy carry fifty... anyone ain't blind can plainly see how tiny
that thing is.... I don't think it can safely hold more than twenty.
The Minnihaha I was on is huge.

RESPONSE: Going to show these pics to some friends.
We only live a few miles from three of the victims from Warren Michigan
& Trenton where the rest were from is not that far also. The whole
community of Warren has rallied around the victims surviving families
with emotional support. As you can guess this tragedy has dominated our
news since it happened.

When I was a kid we went camping at Singing Waters in the Adirondacks and
there was a camp area and a bar called Minnehaha. Same area Sheldon?

That second picture is a better view.

Doesn't it look like the cabin has been added
after the boat was built?

It seems so oversize in proportion, compared
to the hull. Hard to believe it was originally
designed that way.

No wonder people were trapped, it's like being
in a phone booth.

When I was a kid we went camping at Singing Waters in the Adirondacks and

The Adirondacks compose a huge area, millions of acres... must be a
zillion camp grounds there... apparently Singing Waters is still going
strong, according to their website they're 95 miles from Lake George.

You just made me think of what the boat reminded
me of ... those boats that cross the lake in Epcot ...
they go along a submerged rail. They certainly
don't look like something I'd like to go out on in
real water with wakes and who knows what.

There's no doubt that the boat was overloaded and was also short a crew
member. The accident showed a remarkable similarity to one a couple of
years ago in the Baltimore Harbor. That boat was caught in a sudden storm
with no warning, flipped over and lost three people. They would have been
saved in they had been wearing life jackets. Too had those lessons weren't
applied in the Lake George case.

Another thing puzzles me. We were boaters for about 33 years. One basic
technique
when meeting a big wake is to turn into it at a 45 degree angle. Having
the wake hit the boat broadside is a recipe for disaster.

I'd like to see all tour boats of this type adhere to a weight load standard
and insist that passengers wear life jackets for what is a relatively short
boat trip, whether they gripe about it or not.

LOL I'm pretty sure if you pay for the lake cruise they don't care if you
are a member of the church or not.
