Quoted message said:I've signed up for my open water cert through St. Croix Scuba. I'm
starting this the weekend after I return from Texas. I'm also
planning on getting at least my Adventure Diver cert and perhaps my
Advanced Open Water before going to the Keys late this summer.
One thing I found interesting while studying for my OW is that
strenuous exercise makes one more susceptible to the bends. I'll only
do a light workout or two the week of May 8th so that shouldn't be a
problem but it could get interesting later on when I do my lake dives.
I'm not a diver but a couple family members are. The usual progression for a
midwestern diver seems to go like this: You do your check out dive and first
few dives in some local lakes and it's pretty cool. So you schedule a trip
to a diving destination like Yucatan or the Keys in your case, and it's
amazing. From that point on, local dives seem like a lot of trouble for
poking around in a cold, murky lake. YMMV, fo course.
BTW, don't fall for the old "hold your breath and I'll race you to the
surface" trick that they like to pull on newbs,.
