  1. I've signed up for my open water cert through St. Croix Scuba. I'm
starting this the weekend after I return from Texas. I'm also
planning on getting at least my Adventure Diver cert and perhaps my
Advanced Open Water before going to the Keys late this summer.

One thing I found interesting while studying for my OW is that
strenuous exercise makes one more susceptible to the bends. I'll only
do a light workout or two the week of May 8th so that shouldn't be a
problem but it could get interesting later on when I do my lake dives.

    Open Water? Hmm.

Tip the boat's captain heavily and tape a BIG picture of yourself with
magic-markered "AM I ONBOARD?" across the bottom of the photo to the
    steering wheel.

    Or not.

I'm not a diver but a couple family members are. The usual progression for a
midwestern diver seems to go like this: You do your check out dive and first
few dives in some local lakes and it's pretty cool. So you schedule a trip
to a diving destination like Yucatan or the Keys in your case, and it's
amazing. From that point on, local dives seem like a lot of trouble for
poking around in a cold, murky lake. YMMV, fo course.

BTW, don't fall for the old "hold your breath and I'll race you to the
surface" trick that they like to pull on newbs,.

I checked the IMDb page and saw "Based on the true story of two scuba
divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour
    boat has left."

    Did not know that.

Blecch. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. (And you ain't it,
Hanson. Good - and safe - diving to you.)

Probably right. Warm diving is only a plane ticket away to Florida. I
have a friend down there I stay for free with.

Hehe. Nope, I know better than that.
