Assuming you have a clean record, they're easier to get than most
people think. And an AOW ("all other weapons"😉 tax stamp is only
$5.00, compared to the $200.00 automatic weapon tax stamp.

We used to live in the Mojave desert in Lancaster, so I know what you
mean!
Nearly all the land in Texas is privately owned. There really is no
place to practice other than ranges here...
I envy you.
We miss being able to go out for a long drive and go plinking every
weekend.
