  1. Just packing for the Pyrenees. The wife said "Don't forget the
deodorant"(she's not going). I can seem to make her understand that:

    a. It's extra weight
    b. Nobody particularly cares in the mountains

But she insists that I must "smell nice" in the evening!

    What are your thoughts?

For a quiet life, pack it and then dump it at the airport. And stay
    downwind of fellow walkers.

  5. Deodorant can act as a midge repellant. Worth considering.

  6. It depends on what you intend getting up to in the evenings after a long day
sweating and grunting on the peaks. Personally, after such exertion I would
not be inclined for any activity for which "smelling nice" might be deemed a
distinct advantage i.e.approaching women with a lascivious grin on my
fizzog. But possibly, if you intend sleeping under the heavens, the aroma of
cheap Lynx could keep amorous sheep at bay. I'm sure your Missus has your
    best interests at heart.

Pack one that's nearly empty. Throw away on arrival, say it just ran out
on the last day, you don't mind lying to her?

Of course, this may affect your attraction to the local women (negatively)
    and bugs (positively).

Alternatively, she's your wife, she's letting you go and do something she
hates and you love, just do as she asks for the sake of a long and happy
    marriage.

    Andy.

I'll pack the deodorant. There'll be plenty of litter bins at the
    airport!!!!(snigger, snigger)

When wild-camping I take one Nivea deodorant wipe for the day I come

Normally I'd agree, but when you walk all day in Spain and then head
straight into a bar, being clean may not be an option, whereas a quick
    spray enables socialising!

Do what I did and buy a tiny 35ml can of Sure deodorant from Superdrug for
about £1. Weighs next to nothing at 25grams.

She has a nose that works very differently to mine. I find that
deodorants smell *vastly* worse than people that have worked up an
honest sweat. The honest sweat only really becomes a problem in old
clothes with old sweat, and where things are stinking a proper wash (or
swim in a local river) will do far more than chemical disguising agents.
Put on over the top of stale sweat you just get 2 horrible smells
    rather than one.

X-static and/or merino base layers are thought to hum much less over
time than other synthetics, so are worth the bother.

If you want to smell nice in the evening keep some clean clothes and
have a swim in the river before you had for the local hostelry.

I do. Roos seems to share my feelings on the matter. Watching a Nivea
deodorant/anti perspirant ad at the cinema on Sunday I was informed I'd
get a very cool reception if I turned up in bed having applied some, as
the chap in the ad had done.

Humans have vastly different ideas on what body odours smells nasty.
There was a TV program long ago which demonstrated that.
There were some interesting experiments done with mice, where female mice
preferred the smell of unrelated male mice to close relatives. It is
believed that this applies to humans as well and explains the phenomenon of
falling madly in Love. It will also probably be a reason why humans are
    generally exogamous
