  1. What's the difference between the $700 CycloOps Powertap and the $180 PowerTap Electro Pack Elite? They seem to serve the same functions, but I'm not sure what I 'need' for somewhat serious 'personal goal' training....

I'm a total noob. Any help would be great. Thanks!

  2. You really should do some reading/research to help yourself not sound like "a total noob". The 'Search' function is your friend and very 'user friendly'.

To quote a very wise person, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, and he will feed himself for a lifetime"...

Um. Thanks. I did. But after looking at specs they appear to me to serve the same functions, and knowing so little about gear I don't have the base knowledge to make a proper comparison.

Not that there's anything wrong with being or sounding like a 'noob', anyways. Weren't we all noobs, once?

ANYWAYS..I don't want to start a digressive argument. I really just need some information, a blunt comparison I can't seem to find online.

  4. ^^ LOL! No need for defense, pal, I wasn't attacking you. If you couldn't take my response as trying to be helpful, then that's on you. IMHO, if you can't distinguish between the two devices you listed, then training with power is probably beyond your scope right now...Your initial query had you sounding totally lost on the subject...anyway, good luck😉

and a tip: the $200 Electropack is just the CPU head unit - you get no hub. The $700 unit probably includes a wired hub with an accompanying CPU...I'm out...

  5. From the CycleOps website:

    Quoted post said:

    Powertap Electronic Pack:

    • Replacement electronic pack for PowerTap power meter.
    • Contains: Cervo CPU, PowerAgent CD, USB Download cradle, and CPU mounting kit, and heart rate strap.*
    • Comp/SL/Pro kit also includes Sharkfin receiver.

*Note: Elite+ electronics pack does not include a heart rate strap

  6. ^^^ and you still get no hub to transmit the power data...

  7. +1, Tony.

CycleOps PowerTap (Elite,Pro,SL) is your main objective. The Pak is an option if you already have the PT hub, just like the Joule computer, or Garmin.

    Saris --> CycleOps --> Powertap --> Electropak.

Theire web site's having some issues so be patient, but Yahoo/Google are great tools.

  8. ^^ Yeah, G, it's not that difficult to figure out...😉
