Creaking Marin Frame

Yep.

I had a bike (Marin, but I don't think that matters here)
that ended up going through lots of water over the bottom
bracket. Within a week I was getting an annoying creak when
pedalling. Pulling the bottom bracket and covering
everything with grease took care of the problem.

Let them try it.

PS: you can troubleshoot this yourself by
moving/compressing things and standing up/sitting down,
attempting to isolate the sound and rule out various
causes. Tri-flow is your friend in the end.

Could be the crank(s) not fully tightened onto the bottom
bracket, easy to check.

I had that on a new bike. Painted steel shell and plastic
threaded BB. Grease on the thread cured it instantly. Paul

Yes. My oldish Rift Zone has creaked on occasion and my
mates Mount Vision is having a field day at the moment.
Causes in my case were bottom bracket, usually cured by
wrapping PTFE tape around the threads before fitting and
crank/bb interface eventually cured with new cranks (still
using tapered bb). It still has creaks at the mo of which
some are coming from the saddle and some from gawd-knows-
where. Mates MV creak we think is coming from the swing-arm
shock mount. Why this is so we don't yet know but he
recently fitted a Whyte bearing conversion and there may be
something amiss with the installation.

yes. My Marin Bear Valley has squeaked twice, once cured by
tightening the crank arms, once by greasing the BB.

Yes. But saddles also develop creaks, as do seat posts, as
can cranks. None of these things are serious. The handlebars
on my Cannondale creak rather alarmingly, but there dosn't
seem to be anything wrong with them.

My familly have had a Marin for about 10 years and it has been incredably reliable,I now have a Marin Fairfax which has also been good VERY well made bikes in my opinion

Very difficult to track down and sometimes even though you
can trace the approximate source the exact cause is
invisible.

If you get a creak with one side of pedal and not the
other that's a clue. And may I suggest that you try
lopsided peddling anyway because that might result in
exaggerated body movements which you can then switch by
lop-other-siding.

Experiment with power strokes while just touching handlebars
with finger tips. That should eliminate headset.

1 x cadence looks like BB/pedal 2 x cadence looks like
something else

Does it creak when you drop off a pavement curb? I don't
know the style of bike but suspension and saddle/seat post
are pretty creaky.

There is no such thing as a completely silent bike.

My Marin BB started coming undone after 1000 miles so
check the funny inside-out nuts that keep the BB
cartridge in place.

It turned out to be noise from the top mount of the rear
shock. Obviously is _was_ related to suspension movement...
