Crank set, Rd and Fd upgrade

i dunno whats on the bike and cant be bothered finding out, like you i cant be bothered doing research and you didnt say what year the bike is and its not all that difficult to find the parts, you'll need a rear derallieur.. is the bike 9 speed ? the only other thing is cage length, you'll probably just need a medium one.

front derallieur, top or bottom pull ? is the current derallieur's cage above or below the clamp ?

cranks, what brand cranks are on it now, and splined or square taper bottom bracket? you might have to replace the bottom bracket as well depending if its splined or not and depending on the spindle length.

OK, sorry, i have been riding for about 10 years, only been typing for 5...sorry.
it is a 2006 trek 4300 disc, alivio rear and c050 front derallieur. The front is top pull, and cage is above the clamp. The crank set is a SR 42/34/24 suntour XCC-150 This is all i know about the bike i got a deal on it, and wanted to upgrade what i could. My personal bike is a 2003 Raleigh Lahar disk. and i love it. However, this deal i could not pass up since i put about 18 road miles a day on a bike. Sorry to not give all the info, my kids drive me crazy so i dont get a lot of time to think about what I am typing. any help would be great.

square taper with those cranks 😄

umm.. it'll get expensive, you need derallieur, cassette (8->9speed), shifters, cables, chain, cranks, bottom bracket plus if you dont do it yourself the labour from the bike shop

and after all that everything else will probably still be pretty basic.

You'd be better off saving some money and getting a new bike. As was said, youd need to upgrade pretty much everything. And go sram, not shimaNO. The X.7 line outperforms LX and probably XT, too. I have an LX rd that replaced TWO XT RDs. Both broke with less than a year worth of use, and the XT shifters are going now, too...

yeah i'd reccomend SRAM as well, none of that shimano [censored] if you can :d i have campag on my road bike and will never go back to shimano and well.. i dont have a mountain bike at the moment, theyre coming but the geared one will have SRAM

one thing.. if you do get a bike with SRAM alot of them seem to come with shimano chains, if you can afford to change it to sram, it'll work better

Got my LBS to upgrade my Alivio RD to LX. Didn't have to change anything else even though the chain & cassett are 8 speed. What a difference!
