Cracked rim

Francisco,
I can top that. I have a nice Campy Record hub, with 32 DT Swiss
spokes, on a Mavic Open Pro rim. The rim has ten spoke holes with
cracks! I think it took about 3000 km of riding to get the rim to that
condition.

I replaced the rim with a Velocity rim, and I haven't had any problems
in 18,00 - 20,000 km.

Have you contacted the German shop and told them of your problem?

Still not, I wanted to know if I can go with those cracks without
problem, but it looks like I'll have to rebuild the wheel. I suppose the
shop will ask me to send them the wheel so they can fix it, but that
would surely take a lot of time and I'd have to pay shipping. In any
case I'll try it.

You might ask if they will send you a replacement to use while they
repair your wheel. Explain that without your wheel, you will not be
able to ride for a long time. You might have to pay shipping twice, but
at least you would still be able to ride.

mostly cosmetic initially, but it will get worse over time and problems
keeping the wheel true will become progressively worse.

the rim cracked because the spokes are over-tensioned. it will need to
be replaced, but this time, make sure the drive side spokes are within
the rim manufacturer's tension spec. use loctite [or linseed oil] if
there are any problems with the non-drive side spokes.
