Cool bike advise

As for type, perhaps you should be looking at Fitness or comfort bikes.

As for model, perhaps you should be looking at the "signed" bikes that
are becoming avaliable from famous fashion houses (generally made by
top bike manufacturers). ex.:

As for were to ask for advice, this is not the right place. We are not
cool and can never afford the bikes we really want. We are people who
care about what we ride, not how cool it looks!

it's not /entirely/ practical though. But one of /these/
(http://www.velokraft.com/-vk2.htm) with a tailbox could actually ve
used for verging on sensible uses (up to a point...).

Going down the less minimalistic route you could try the wares of
http://www.velomobiel.nl/, especially the Quest.

Windcheetahs are usually fairly good for blowing minds
(http://www.windcheetah.co.uk/). Tricen come in a wider range of
flavours to suit, but there's something about the joystick steering and
one sided back wheel support that gives the Speedy an edge in cool.

These are all 'bents, but the simple fact of the matter is that if you
want to wow non-cyclists too then you get a much better crack at it with
a 'bent. Just about /any/ bent will get you noticed, even ones with
much less cool than those mentioned above, which means you can actually
get something very practical as well as jaw-drop inducing. The HP Vel
Speedmachine is a good example of a lovely bike that can be used in the
Real World (Dave Larrington uses one for commuting in the Smoke):

Design and build your own carbon fibre monocoque SWB recumbent with
weird suspension, and ride it very fast. Most people will find at least
one aspect of the project cool or interesting. Or get an old high
wheeler.

Speak for yourself! Some of us ride bikes chosen for how they ride but
which happen to look cool in any case, and judging from the amount of
"That is /so/ cool!" and similar we get riding our 'bents that's not
just vanity...

I can only applaud the shallowness of this request. Would that I could
afford to be the same :-)

I don't know about wowing, but one of these would certainly get people

I hadn't really got that far. I'll have to ask Bob to put a moustache
handlebar on it.

(Actually, a carbon trike with flat bars, chaincase, rod brake and
Sturmey Archer three-speed would certainly have not so much novelty
value as uniqueness value, if not possessing Ultimate Coooolness.)
