I wonder if that's a good idea. There might be some more stress down the
    road as a result.

exactly, it can definately affect you for 10 or so years. I know. it took me
(and my husband's guidance) to obtain my all time high credit score of 628.
I am almost 39. I filed in 1991. It starts a cycle of high interest=never
get out of the hole that is really hard to get out of. trust me.
    slow down.
take a deep breath, and again (repeat 10-12/minute)
    better?
I don't know what kind of help would work for you, but a rededication to my
marriage and family allowed me to give my DH the control to make the
majority of our financial decisions. Over a 18 month process (about when I
started to lose weight) I learned to slow down and think about spending
money and interest rates really matter (it's not just about getting the loan
anymore. I can get a Good Loan.)
So I recently inquired about refi'ing our 2 mortgages (8% and
    16%!!!!!!!!!!!!!) into a lower rate.
%6.5 on my own. done in a week or two.
dropped my Citifinancial loan from 21% to 9.9% at my credit union. Boy, I
was jazzed when I borrowed that first $1500. DON't DO it!!!!!! I could go on
and on but I'll let you imagine what it is like. CREDIT IS VERY IMPORTANT IN
THE USA. It is getting to be a much more desirable trait because so many
people are ruining their credit and still work HArd!. Protect that credit
score which you have and improve it.

Oh, Luna, I love that line! Would you mind if I use it as my tag line on
    another site?

I would not mind at all. Did I ever tell you about the time I was attacked
by a dead bird? I was waiting under a tree at a bus stop, on a dismal
rainy afternoon. A gust of wind shook the tree like the breath of the
devil himself. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a dark, heavy thing fall
out of the tree and land right next to my leg. I looked down and saw it
was a soggy dead bird, the big black kind that, when alive, sits on a tree
limb or a fence post with its beady little eyes following you as if it can
see into your soul, and doesn't like what it sees. Startled, I jumped.
And that's when I realized this was no ordinary dead bird. This fiend of
hell had managed to torment me from the beyond by somehow attaching itself
to the cuff of my pants. I shook my leg vigorously, hoping to dislodge the
loathsome wet feathered mass, all the while screaming and flailing my arms
about like a rabid Hillary Duff fan on PCP, but to no avail. I'm sure I
was a quite a sight to the passing motorists. Eventually I gathered the
remains of my wits about me enough to be able to grab a fallen branch, with
which I was able to remove the foul thing. I scraped the corpse off and
flung in into the road, whereupon it was immediately squashed flat by a
truck, spattering evil bird blood and evil bird guts all over my pants. My
whole life I'd been told not to stand under a tree in a rainstorm, and now
    I know why.

  7. Have you been practicing your writing? Great description. The worst bird
encounter I ever did not directly affect me. When I was in high school, my
best friend and I were walking along eating sandwiches one day and a bird
dropped a worm right on her sandwich. We weren't even under a tree. <G>

More evidence for my "birds are evil" theory. Thank you. You know birds
evolved from dinosaurs, right? When you look in their eyes, you can almost
see their reptilian ancestory staring back at you, with a racial memory of
the time when they ruled the earth and we were small furry things barely
worth eating. They remember the glory days, and are just biding their time,
waiting for the evolutionary pendulum to swing back in their favor.

My
whole life I'd been told not to stand under a tree in a rainstorm, and now
    I know why.

  13. When I was a kid I had a band directed who got pooped on. I was glad about
    it 🙂

I did call animal control first. They asked if the dog's owner was home. I
told them that was the problem, he hadn't been home for three days. They
said they couldn't do anything until he came home. I told them the dog
would be dead by that time. They said when he came home to call them and
they would come talk to him, but if he says he's been home all along and
takes good care of his dog, it is my word against his, blah, blah, blah.

I called the cops the next day. They didn't do anything either, just talked
to the manager, who told them the situation was under control. The same
manager who told me the day before that they didn't want to "bother" the
    dog's owner at work.

Now, no one is speaking to me at all. If they are on their front porch when
I take my dog for a walk, they get up, go inside and close the door. I'm
living in a [censored] looney bin.

  16. Thank you, Rosie. The hardest part of this is selecting one pet to keep out
of four. I have two cats and two dogs and the facility I've applied to only
allows one pet (cat or dog). It is breaking my heart having to give up
three of them - I love them all.

Luna, to support your theory I'd like to share that I'd got pooped on
twice and I was robbed by a seagull. In Aberdeen, Scotland, they have
the largest seagulls I have ever seen. The size of a basketball, each
of them is waaaay bigger than the ones I saw in other parts of UK and
in all other places in the world I'd been. One day I left the window
in my kitchen opened, and on the window sill I had a pack of scuttle
fish flakes. I was in my lounge, heard some noise that sounded like
flapping wings coming in from the kitchen and so I ran to see what
happened. I saw nothing. Then I look through the window onto the
roof the public toilet (yes I live next to a disused public toilet
which used to be a local jail) and I saw this nasty bugger poking
through the bag with its beak and shaking out the flakes. Feeling
furious at being robbed by a bird I tried to find something from my
kitchen to throw at the bird without feeding it. Sadly, all I had was
    a shallot.

My personal program requires me to stay straight with myself and others, so
    I need to post this.

I'm going thru a solid wall of hell in the residence area of my life. Job
sucks, too, but I can live with that. My health doesn't seem to be getting
    much better, either.

The [censored] really hit the fan last week when my next door neighbor took off
for several days and left his old dog locked in his RV. After about 3 days
of listening to the poor dog howl and cry, I informed management of the
situation and they said they couldn't do anything (actually they acted more
like they didn't give a [censored] and why was I bothering them). So I let the
situation go one more day, had a consult with my vet and then called the
    cops.

When I did that, management decided to get off their asses and they called
the dog's owner and made arrangements for someone to pick up the dog. They
were very mad at me for raising hell about the situation.

The neighbor on the other side of the [censored] came over and mowed his lawn
and picked up a pile of trash he had stacked up in his front yard.

Obviously there is some truth to the phrase "trailer park trash." I bought
my trailer new three years ago and I have loved living in it. But I am
absolutely overwhelmed by the stupidity and meanness of the other residents
    in this park.
I'm moving as soon as I can find a place and giving the house back to the
    bank and filing bankruptcy.

All that rant just to say this. A chain always gives at its weakest link.
    I didn't drink, I didn't smoke, but I had three pints of Ben & Jerry's on
three different days. Ice Cream is like a tranquilizer for me and I was
    close to a nervous breakdown.

Thank God, I didn't gain even one pound, and I seem to be a little more
settled today, but this has been a rough patch - more like hell, actually.

I have 31 years sober, 3 1/2 years off cigarettes, 1 year into LC (with the
exception of the last three days) and a total loss of 40 pounds.

Don't bother giving me a hard time and heaping some more abuse on my head, I
have plenty thank you. I will killfile anyone who doesn't respond to this
with a little kindness. I am in tolerance frustration.

Well Jean, Not that I am a Bible thumper or anything. I do believe
there is a God. There is a scripture in the Bible that says " Let he
who is without sin, cast the first stone" There is not one person in
this newsgroup who hasnt stumbled. Some may not feel comfortable
letting others know their weakness. You on the otherhand have
expressed your humaness ( is that even a word). We are all human and
we make mistakes. So you tripped on your journey. Pick yourself up,
dust yourself off, get back on the wagon, and carry on.
Sometimes when you think life can get no worse, it gets worse
but........ there is light at the end of the tunnel at some point.
This too shall pass. Remember something.... Life is every changing. No
day is like the day before nor will it be like the next day coming.
Life is full of constant changes and things will get better. Be
    patient..
I myself have been a very bad girl smothering my recent sorrow in
carbs. Im currently on induction and suffering the withdrawals. Life
can be the [censored] but it can be good too. Hang in ther kiddo!!!!!!

Wow, Jean, that really SUCKS! Serious friction with the neighbors can be HELL --
I had to move in the middle of the night once due to the angry (not to mention
deranged and ARMED) man who lived in the apartment under mine (and I had lived
there for 7 years prior to that). You did the right thing about the dog.

I have a funny nasty neighbor story for you. My neighbor has this big
dog who jumps their tiny fence. He loves to drop his 3 pound piles in
my yard. I nicely asked his wife to do something to keep the dog in
their yard as I was getting tired of scooping the [censored] from his new
ceremonial crapping grounds (my yard). Well she got all nasty with me
telling me my dog barking scares her totally blind daughter. I told
her my little dog cant jump a 6 foot wood fence and she had nothing to
worry about. I then turned away and went in my house. Later in the
afternoon her husband shows up at my door looking like Farmer John
with his trusty shovel. He gruffly says to me "WHERE"S THE [censored]". I
take him to the one fresh one and the 2 old dry ones. He hastily
shovels up the fresh one, shovels the one old dry one and when he gets
to the last dry one the [censored] rolled off the shovel. " I said to him
"Ya dropped some". He says to me "Jesus Christ!" he hooshes the [censored]
left on the shovel into the street, bends over picks up the [censored] that
fell off with his BARE HANDS!!! ad throws that into the street too!
ICK!!!!! he then trots off and I shout" Well now! That was mightly
right neighborly of you wasn't it?"
The dog has never crapped in my yard since.

The hardest thing about a situation like this is to remember and internalize
that you're not the one who's crazy. Tho' I'll grant you that's getting harder
    and harder all the time.
