My Rockhopper is yellow, my Windcheetah is metallic and yellow, my Marin is two tone orange and my road bike and unicycle are both silver. Helens Rockhopper is yellow, oldest son has a yellow bike and youngest son has a red bike.
Yellow is probably my favourite colour.
Plus, yellow = bananas, and we all know bananas fuel cyclists!
OK, so the frame really needs a respray - I didn't used to treat the bike with the respect it deserves - but once it is done (when I can afford to get it done properly with all the original transfers replaced) it will probably be the most handsome bicycle in christendom. I should probably also replace the cable outers with something more appropriate that the matt silver (can you get them BRG?). Might also replace the black bar tape next time it needs doing with something in a "natural" cork type colour.
FWIW, the Raleigh Royale in this household (which is 'champagne' in colour, with, as you say, chromed fork ends) was supplied with light tan leather bar tape. I actually like leather bar tape - can you still get it anywhere?
If the frame was built by a small, specialist builder, it might be courteous to stick his name back on. Otherwise, why bother with any? If you must, stick your name on. If you stick your postcode on as well it might be an effective thief deterrent.
I have never had a postcoded bike returned...
I've had at least two locked, coded bikes stolen, on separate occasions, and reported their theft to Police every time. They were marked as coded too.
I meant putting the postcode in large letters on the sides of the frame tubes, not a small discrete stamp somewhere - and more as a disincentive to nicking in the first place than as a serious means of tracing.
