Since carbon doesn't wear well when rubbed on by steel(like in the
chain), probably more for the 'show' than the 'go'. I am sure they
don't do anything better than aluminum, like shift, wear, etc...but
they sure are expensive!!

No, but then the carbon lever part doesn't come in contact with a
metalic rim.

Dear Rik,

Gulp! If those really are carbon teeth on the chain ring, then I may
have to admit defeat.

I can find wooden bicycles with wooden handlebars and frames and rims
and even spokes from the 1890's, but I'm pessimistic about finding
wooden cranks, much less chain rings.
