  1. Just curious: Does anyone here, guys specifically, swim with a heart rate monitor?

I have a rather broad back which tapers - not quite a
"dorito" back - but close - and the strap falls to my waist
as soon as I push off the wall.

Does anyone else have this problem? I would imagine women
don't have this problem as their suit (or one of those polar
workout tops) would prevent it from falling.

I have used it under a wet suit and it worked quite well.

Even on a run, if I don't make the strap really tight it
    will slide down. Any suggestions?

It's a relatively new (last year) Polar HR monitor/strap if
    that makes a difference.

Drink lots of beer, eat many cookies, and workout less.

  4. I put mine on in T1 for half IM and longer. In shorter
events I don't use one as it is full out.

  5. Some of the research i've done and been involved with has required the male
subjects to wear a HR monitor during the swim. There were two ways we got
    around this:

the swimmers either wore older body suits they had stretched
out already (or a girls suit they borrowed)...

    ...or...

...we made braces (suspenders for the yanks) out of inch-
thick elastic that prevented the monitor from slipping off,
with loops that went over the shoulders. cheap and easy.

tape didn't work, either athletic training tape OR duct
tape, (they didn't like removing the tape afterwards either!

we had some periods on push-offs where the transmitter was
pulled away from the skin for a second or two, but the
braces always put it back in place. the suits (bodysuit or
female's suit) held it in place just fine. the braces and
suits all held the transmitter in place while swimming
perfectly however, even at maximum effort pace.

the final solution i could suggest is how we use the
monitors during squad training - the watch is placed at the
end of the lane, and the transmitter left on the deck. you
can get a heart rate when you come in simply by holding the
transmitter in place for a few seconds, however, if you're
trying to record a prolonged heart rate trace this isn't the
    answer for you.

i know these are probably more dramatic than you were
looking for, but they are solutions.

Beer and cookies have been my normal training diet for
years. I've found as I get older they give me more acid
reflux - especially if I down a cold one right before I dive
    into the pool.

I'm not that concerned about racing with one - I'm just
looking to get some bio-feedback during some key training
    sessions....

This was kind of what I was thinking of. I was hoping
someone had tried it. I'm going to try a tight-fitting
shirt first. If that doesn't work I'll go for the
    suspenders (braces).

    Thanks! CF

Attach an over the shoulder strap for each shoulder,
possibly made from wetsuit latex. Just a simple strap that
attaches to the monitor belt in both the front and the back
that will hold it in place. Purhaps each strap should cross
the chest and loop over the opposite shoulder.
