  1. What spindle length bb do I need for a campy veloce triple crank?
Frames is steel 853 reynolds. 111, 115? What is the longest spindle I
can use? I have a 115 UN72. I think that it will put the crankarms too
far out. Can I use a miche track bb?

    Thanks,

    Andres

28.6 or 32mm seat tube? If 28.6, the 111 Campy or 110 Miche would
    work. If it's a 32mm seat tube, use a 115. The UN-72 has a different
(JIS vs ISO) taper. Some say it works OK, but I wouldn't do it myself.
    That's just me.

Shortest bottom bracket spindle possible. The 111 mm for Veloce
triple crankset. I use the 111 AC-H or its lesser versions on a frame
with 32mm seattube. Centaur triple crank from 2002 or thereabouts.
Generally you can find these bottom brackets for about $20.

110 Miche or 111 Campagnolo is right.

"Shortest" may lead to a 102 Record or 103 Tange; too short.

    I have a Valachi triple on a Record 111 BB, on a '92-ish Tommasini
SLX. The inner chainring is maybe a little outboard of minimum.

Reason for posting: I'd read somewhere (maybe?) about an older Veloce
crank that required a different BB than the current items, so I
installed carefully, bewaring of "too short". It's on there at
    suggested torque.

There are Athena BB's in 111 that use the Campy BB/cassette lock ring
tool, which might save a little lunch money over using an ACH and
needing the different flat BB wrench. --D-y

That's because the Record 111 is asymmetrical. Centaur, AC-H, AC-S and
SC-S are symmetrical. The Miche is shoulderless, so you can adjust
your chainline however you want (within reason).

Campagnlo Athene (111mm) is shoulderless too, but isn't made anymore.

Those are listed by sellers (Branford for one) as "symmetrical".

There's a Branford quote (approx): "All modern Campy BB's have
    symmetrical axles".

I don't know if that's true, but I'm not pretending to be an expert,
    either.

I think you misread; "outboard of minimum" I meant to convey "it could
    come maybe a mm closer".

There certainly is no misalignment there.

I'll try to be more precise in the future.

Including the fact that yeah, the Athena is shoulderless and so can be
moved some small amount if needed (which I did, IMS, when using a
fluteless "Super Record" track crank on my pista bike), another
advantage for that BB, besides being cheap (usually) when you can find
    one. --D-y

    I don't know if that's true

It became untrue with the introduction of the Record and Chorus Triple
cranksets in 2002 that were designed for exclusive use with the assymetrical
Record and Chorus Triple 111mm BBs.

These were discontinued in 2007 and replaced with less-good triple stuff,
that again uses symmetrical 111mm or 115.5mm BBs.

You need to read your brochures, mate ;-)

Google didn't seem to help on this one.

So, enlighten me, please-- or point the way to where the info is

All Campy Record, Chorus 111 BB's are non-symmetrical? Including C
Record cup/cone? And the Athena sealed? --D-y

Athena are long gone, the 2002~2006 Chorus & Record Triple 111 are
asymmetric, 2007-up new Triples take symmetric spindles.

Pete's helpful comments seemed clear on those points.
When you quote 'all modern...' it applies to _last year and now_, not a
1992 Athena or 2003 Chorus Triple spindle.

Athena spanned loose ball and cartridge eras of various formats, as does
    Record. "Are Chevys Red?"

Indeed. I was wondering about Pista. Pista 111 (sealed or cup/cone
with the C on the axle), Symmetrical, or non?

Depends on when "modern" started. Post Nuovo Record? That's why I
    asked.

Athena BB's come along now and then, why I mentioned them, and sealed
    using the BB/cass. spline tool.

Ebay list w/TinyURL shortening, for a cup/cone unit:

One more, please: Are there two BB lengths needed for different years
of Veloce cranks, double or triple? --D-y

As well as from memory (I remeber because I have a Record Triple crankset &
BB myself), I looked up the official printed brochures aka catalogs (from
2000) that I have at home.

Sorry I don't know where this info is online at the moment. Unfortunately
Campag only have the current year's full brochure on their website. They do
have "Spare Parts" info for previous years - but that doesn't contain all
    the info from the brochures.

    Quoted message said:

Certainly from 2000 onwards. I'm not so sure about the older stuff.

2000+ Record and Chorus *double* cranksets used 102mm BBs.

The 2000 and 2001 Record *triple* group (with Racing Triple crankset) did
include a symmetrical 111 or 115.5mm BB. There could be confusion because
some people may have incorrectly called this BB a "Record" - but its proper
name was AC-H. There were also the cheaper SC-H and SC-S options. These
were all symmetrical - and designed for use with various cranksets, not just
Record - hence why none of them should be called "Record".

    Quoted message said:

Including C Record cup/cone? And the Athena sealed? --D-y

I have a feeling some of the ancient cup/cone ones were asymmetrical - but
my knowledge is vague on these. I suspect the "Athena" was actually an AC-H
    or SC-H or SC-S.
