Poor Tom... just couldn't make it up those big mean mountains today.

They are just too steep, and there are too many fans, and the fans are making too much noise, and there is too much gravel on the roads, and Tom's tummy hurts, and Robbie McEwen is a big boogerhead. Screw this, he's going home.

All McEwen has to do is to finish that tour now, climb some more mountains, and he's home free.

I am not surprised Tom retired, as the Green Jersey drifted further and further away, he just lost his spark and the desire to get through those mountains, he didn't believe he could get a stage anymore, the mountained killed him, and no green for him at the end of the line.

I think a new phrase has been coined..........

and it's called being moderated.

I'll take a whinging Boonen over McEwen any day. In his comments the other day it was "[censored] Evans, he can help himself. I need the team for me. Me. Me. Me. Blah. Blah. Blah..."

Boonen isnt winning because McEwen is too good right now. He's not off form, he would of arrived at the Tour in the right condition. McEwen has clearly been too good and Boonen cracked it. His not sprinting for placings is more about ego than anything else and his comments have shown him in a poor light. I think he had trouble breathing and quit coz of the monkey named McEwen on his back.

McEwen has been very accomodating to Evans from the start, he has been telling all who would listen Evans is a favourite (proving wrong now maybe) and has been puffin him up since he joined the team. Being a proven leader McEwen has every right not to be so happy he doesnt get as many dedicated workers too. He is the top sprinter in Europe and the one guy DVL can depend on for wins each year, so he can be entitled to feel somewhat unhappy that he doesnt get a full team for his benefit, like Ale Jet or to a lesser extent Boonen.

If Boonen thinks his troubles will end once RM is gone, he is far mistaken.

He needs to actually FINISH this race before he can set his eyes on the green jersey.

Quick-Steps Tour has been disastrous. I think the reconning of the Mountains stages took a little bit of sharpness in his sprinting off. The sole purpose of the reconning of the Mountain stages, was so he could get over them to finish the tour, which proved to be fruitless. Outside of pulling the peleton on the flats, the team has been invisible. They are dead last in the Team classification, behind Milram which just like QS, dedicated their team for a sprinter (Zabel). Then with Boonen failing, they had least had a fairly solid Top 15 GC guy in Garate (HEs 84th right now I believe), but he had to do a ton of work on the flats, which had to hurt his energy levels. IN fact the wild card team that most felt didn't deserve one, has 3 guys placed higher on teh GC then QS.

Side Note, Interesting enough, its not Mercado who is highest placed out of the Agritubel riders, its a frenchmen, Benoit Salmon (25th)
