Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a bike
and causing a "pile up"?Not sure what the definition of "blow out" is but:
I have experienced very rapid deflation of a bike tyre whilst riding at
speed and a flat 700x23C tyre stays in place on the rim very nicely
thank you, and allows for a controlled coast to safety.I don't know if the same would be experienced with a fat MTB tyre.

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a bike
and causing a "pile up"?I had a 70 mph rear wheel blow out on my motor cycle and managed to stay
upright and bring the bike to a controlled stop. I even managed to control
my sphincter. :-) -

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a bike
and causing a "pile up"?No. I have heard tyres go BNAG! and their riders have always remained in
control.I once had both tyres go BNAG! BNAG! in very rapid succession when I hit
a brick. I was late for work (only one spare tube and no patches for an
8 mile commute) but am very much alive to tell the tale.--

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a
bike and causing a "pile up"?I've had 'blow-outs' on road and mtb's ... and never really had trouble
coping, though I have slid off due to a front wheel blow-out once, about 20
odd years ago. I have also seen one where the guy went over the handlebars
when his front tyre blew, but that was downhill and he would likely have
gone over anyway. I've also seen a couple of other riders get blow-outs and
also remain in complete, albeit limited, control.I've also seen a car blow-out where even the police [1] driving the car
couldn't control it and it went into a spin.I've also had a blow-out at some speed in a car and controlled it though.
Anecdotal evidence doesn't a good case make ... 😉

programme.--

www.cheesesoup.myby.co.ukI have had a front wheel blow out whilst on a tandem. We were descending
towards Dent from Kingsdale and was braking hard to control the descent on
the hairpins. Luckily when it went we were traveling at low speed but it
blew a 6 inch rip in the inner tube and threw the tyre off the rim. Could
have been quite nasty but we got the bike stopped before anything got too
serious. -

birds though when I rode over a piece of metal that sliced through my
tyre and tube writing both off. BANG - bumpity-bumpity-oh-[censored]-bumpityJust as well I didn't know this could have been dangerous, otherwise I
might have been worried about it :-)--

Only time a blowout caused me to fall off was when i was jumping off a 5ft
concrete step slightly off-line, the rear blew out and slipped off the rim.
I was only doing ~10mph and I just dropped the bike and "ran off it". On
road - never had a blowout, let alone one I couldnt control. -

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a bike
and causing a "pile up"?I've only had a tyre blow out on me once; it was when cranked over fairly
hard on a downhill bend, and it was the front that blew (clincher, not
tubular). I managed to bring the bike to a controlled stop upright, but
was a heart-in-mouth moment...However, if it doesn't have you off on a fast downhill bend, it isn't going
to have you off on a straight, flat road. I don't see it as a big problem.--

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a
bike and causing a "pile up"?Like many I've had sudden deflation at speed and come to a controlled, if
precarious, stop. It made my eyes bulge a bit, I can tell you. This chap: have you considered slapping him with a kipper?

more so if sharing the pavement with cyclists :-).Take a shower ? Quite a bit more dangerous.
Do any household DIY ? Gardening with any form of power tool ? Really

www.cheesesoup.myby.co.ukI've only had one once while going round a fast right downhill curve. Went
off the side but luckily there was a parked 4x4 handily positioned to bounce
off.The only embarassing thing was that this was while I was out test-riding the
local LBS owner's pride and joy while I was thinking about whether to buy
something similar. -

flats front and rear coming down a dirt road on Mont Sainte-Victoire in
Provence. By the time I'd reached a halt, both tyres were off the rims
(Panaracer Pasela / Mavic Open Pro) and my rear inner tube was wound around
the cassette.James Thomson

roundabout. Big nail going bang bang bang against the frame. Not the
nicest of places to get a flat, but I could still get to the side of
the road before I was mown down.I've seen more mayhem caused by tyres blowing out or falling off
caravans and trailers, possibly because they were being towed too
fast. -

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on a
bike and causing a "pile up"?I once managed to deflate /both/ tyres, by running over a strip of that
stuff normally used for disciplining carpets, which someone had thoughtfully
left spiky side up in the middle of the road.I fell off.
No other road users were harmed during the making of this joke comedy
incident.OTOH, Matt Weaver's rear tyre let go at 75 mph at Battle Mountain a few
years ago, and he was able to retain control all the way down to walking
pace where, due to the need for three people to help him extract him from
his machine, he fell over. Two ants were slightly alarmed during the making of /this/ joke comedy
incident.I say again: it's time for the shovel.

Is there any one here that has knowledge of a tyre blowing out on
a bike and causing a "pile up"?I've had both front and rear rims fail (on separate occasions) causing
very loud bangs. When the rear rim failed a piece of it jammed in the
frame causing me to skid to a halt. When the front rim failed the
wheel continued rotate and again I came quickly to a halt.I didn't fall off in either incident but I was glad I had been riding
at a fairly low speed in the front wheel case. A couple of hours
earlier I had been going fairly fast down some steep scenery, and I
wouldn't have fancied a front wheel blowout then, particularly in the
bendy bits.OTOH in my yoof I had a blowout in my left front tyre in a Renault 5
in the middle of Church corner at Thruxton, left the track and ended
up in the middle of a ploughed field.--
