I'm going to have beets as a side dish with a pork steak for dinner. I hate
roasting beets...I never get the timing right and they're either over or
undercook when the meat is cooked. So I decided that since I wasn't doing
much I'd pre cook the beets while I watched a DVD...Decided to nuke them. I
trimed off all but 1/2 inch of the stems and cut off the root ends, poked
them with a fork to prevent explosions, put them on a plate and nuked them
for 10 minutes...figgering I'd be able to peel and reheat them come supper
time.
Little did I know that beets just on a plate in the nuker would catch fire.
No real damage...just the remaing 1/2 inch of stems burnt off to complete
ash, a little smoke and some odor. No apparent damage to microwave, kitchen
or me. Just some beets on a plate sitting in some ash...and a funny smell.
If nuking beets please include some water is my warning to you all.
I hope the rest of my day goes better.
