  1. Optimum health is *impossible* without optimum nutrition.

It doesn't matter how good or expensive or accessible your medical
    system is.
It doesn't matter how many doctors you have in the system.
It doesn't matter how accessible drugs are.
It doesn't matter how many "state of the science" drugs are developed.
It doesn't matter how much research is done.
It doesn't matter what the cholesterol guidelines are.
It doesn't matter if medicare pays for obesity treatments or not.
It doesn't matter how many stomachs get stapled.
It doesn't matter how many presciptions your doctor writes.
It doesn't matter how many pills you take.

If you eat manufactured and refined [censored] on an on-going basis you will
*never* attain a state even remotely resembling a state of optimum
    health.

Good nutrition is the absolute bedrock foundation of good health.

Good health will never come from any pharmaceutical drug, ever, under
    any circumstance.

The majority will not heed this message. They will continue to think
they can take a pill to prevent illness, and take a pill to treat
illness. Ironically, they will even take a pill to try to cure the
illness caused by the preventive pill.

The pharma industry and their bought and paid for rent-a-quote doctors
    are counting on this.

    Robert comments with following:
" They take a pill to get
hard. What dietary supplements do you recommend for that?"

The supplements needed you can't get in Canada without a presciption.
DHEA has be found to be useful for a percentage of the impotent
population. Nor do I think that Canadians can still get isolated
amino acids , I know they are unavailable OTC in a fair number of nations
(i.e. Australia, Norway, France) and with no valid reason other
than they tread on the "territory" of the
medical guilds and the large drug companies.
Various l-carnitine supplements in multi-gram doses
are very useful and there is even an article on Medscape on
the subject. Arginine is said to be a useful adjunct with other
impotence treatments. And there are various herbs that can
be useful though most discussions on the topic are hopelessly
    flawed.

Robert you need to understand political ideologues are
not science. Your comments are devoid of science.
Sure I see you are disagreeing with other with differing
ideologues. Cite some solid facts or at least solid theories:-)
and provide a source. Google my short posting
history and learn how to do it when not talking off
the cuff like I am doing with this posting;-)

Common sense tells you that if you need your meds and don't take them you

And common sense also tells you that if you have a cavity you need to
get it filled by a dentist or you will lose the tooth...to bad that is
100% false and you can eliminate the active dental decay with proper
nutrition. Too bad most people do not understand that fact nor will
they ever be told so by the dental profession seeing as how it would
    basicly eliminate them.

I don't think a lay person has any business hav'g an opinion on
nutrition. It is a very complex subject. You need a solid background
in statistics to understand the studies. Most studies are flawed. You
need someone very knowlegeable in statistics and nutrition to look at
the studies and render an opinion. The hard part is finding an
    unbiased scientist.

my area of expertise is finance. studies show that picking stocks at
random is the best way to pick stocks. eg buy index funds. these
studies leave no room for doubt . it is black and white. simple math.
of course nobody making a living in finance is ever going to admit
this, but anyone with a background in math can immediately understand
the studies. i have never encountered a person without a math
background that would agree with index funds. no matter how many
people try to explain it to them they refuse to believe. common sense
    is your worst enemy.

common sense is what led to burning witches. i would prefer an
unbiased scientific opinion. lazy people who don't take the time to
learn math etc will always be condemned to rely on intuition/common
    sense.

What the f... are you talking about?

    TC

If he is talking about the common sense of Monty Python's holy grail
where they come to the conclusion she is a witch because she weighed
as much as a duck and ducks float on water just like wood does, and
witches of course are made of wood(or something like that). Heh I
would not call that common sense that is just flawed logic.

common sense led to the idea that health problems were caused by evil
spells cast by witches. I think you need a minimum bachelor of science
    to be truly human.

my area of expertise is finance. studies show that picking stocks at
random is the best way to pick stocks. eg buy index funds. these
studies leave no room for doubt . it is black and white. simple math.

This is an off-topic discussion, but... Statistics also show that past
history of the success of a fund _does_ indeed predict its success in
the future also. The highest ranking funds are doing better than
average in the future. There are funds that beet clearly their index
in the long run also. And there are also studies about this. I am
amazed that you are not aware of them despite of your education.

It seems that you are following that kind of index-thinking in your
nutrition also. You pick randomly your choices of food...? 🙂

of course nobody making a living in finance is ever going to admit
this, but anyone with a background in math can immediately understand
    the studies.

Here is some evidence that contradicts your claims. One can easily
find more. I am lucky that you are not my fund manager! 🙂

    ..

sorry, but you are absolutely wrong. past performance has zero
correlation with future performance. management makes zero difference
on average over time. the market is efficient. you should also
understand that there is huge variablility involved in stocks and
bonds. the long-term is not 10 yrs. it is more like a 1000 years. this
is not a controversial subject. 99% of finance experts or statiticians
agree with this. this is not new. read a random walk down wallstreet.

10,20,30 years is not statistically significant given the variability.
even if some outperformance is persistent, it is immaterial compared
to the high management expenses you pay with active funds. in other
words, stick with index funds because their low mers more than
compensate for any outperformance by active funds. most studies
    suggest there is negative persistence.
